Love the valve on the helmet.

The videos remind me of Magicka's teaser trailers, and that is simply AWESOME.

I'd personally have made a Ubisoft jab instead, but I still like the ads. Steam's DRM is how DRM should work in my eyes. Completely unintrusive and never actually stops you from playing the game you want to.

Unless your net provider decides it's time for some maintenance and all you can see after clicking starting steam and using "start in offline mode" instead of "retry connection" is "cannot connect to internet to start offline mode".

Exactly, all DRM is bad, granted steam is the best out of the existing DRM, it is still bad.

Eh, I rarely have that issue, but I don't remember a better DRM that'd still work in a modern era. Steam is easily the best DRM out there.

I've had the issue of not being able to start Steam while offline quite a lot. I'm also not connected to the internet rather often. This is a real issue for me.

That never happened to me and it is unlikely that this story is true. I think you did not save your account information on your computer, which makes it your fault if you untick that box.

I've never been able to access offline mode when my net connection dropped. That's easily the most annoying thing about Steam.

Unfortuantelly for me (and it looks like ET3D or BrianFarnet also experienced that), it's true. And I do save my account information.

Weird. I've always been able to start in offline mode when my internet connection is down. Never had an issue with it.

for offline mode, you should at least once exit steam while in offline mode (using Steam->Exit) and you should be sure that in setting 'don't save account credentials on this computer' is unchecked. after this offline mode should work as it must. at least worked fine after did that, before this 'way' i was unable to start offline mode without internet.

hmmm i will try that later to see if works thanks i only need offline mode when I'm on vacation

For me the problem often was that Steam flagged itself as needing an update. It updates itself when it runs, but since I rarely reboot my PC and always have it running it keeps that update to itself until the point where I don't have an internet connection and want to get in. At that point it tries to update, fails, and there's nothing I can do.

That's exactly the problem I think it has--it doesn't like to start right when it wants to update but finds no internet connection.

If you have the game installed, why do you need to start Steam offline? Just go to C:...\Steam\steamapps\common\ find the games' folder and start the .exe of said game.

Some games (such as Crayon Physics Deluxe) let you do this.

Some games (such as Recettear) don't.

It depends on the game.

One reply to the regional rippoff video: Flat prices on GOG? Really? What about Witcher 2?

The responses to that are all making excuses for GOG, while confirming that GOG does have at least one game with regional price gouging. So, unless they have been forced to keep selling The Witcher 2, or the price differences are due to regional sales taxes*, the regional ripoff video looks like false advertising.

*In which case, what about the games where they do keep the price the same world wide ?

Not that it matters that much to me. If they have the cheaper price for a game I want, I'll buy from them. If I know about their better deal.

Well, you can get, uh... creative with your profile, particularly regarding the country you're in. I don't know if this is still the case, but when the Witcher 2 came out, they didn't geo-locate you based on your IP address.

Also you get the price difference in store credit, but that's really the thing they're making fun of here. Blue coins or store credit, it's not money.

They have been forced by some stupid french court of law to use GEO-IP for The Witcher 2.

... also, fuck. I didn't know that. Still doesn't make them hypocrites, since it took a court order for them to implement this.

In fact, since the requirement is exactly what they're campaigning against, I'd say that makes them pretty consistent.
