Would need some help on this puzzle. I have not a clue what to do exactly.
What I think I understood so far:
- there are stitches on the bottom side of each tile
- a ranking is required (1-8) - ranking order not clear to me yet
- two different "tie breakers" - but the triangle is not clear, because EVERY tile has a triangle in the background...
- I expect the quilt does NOT have to be cut into pieces by using a picture editing program
What I've got and tried:
- counting the "-" and "x" stitches often comes to the same solutions, like 5 times "-" and 3 times "x", applying the tie breakers seems pretty hard
- translated the stitches (based on "x") into binary values...?!
- check the count of the votes on the nightcrew page
If you think I've spoilered to much - although I used the spoiler tags - please edit / remove my comment or ask me to do so.
In any case, help is appreciated! ;-)
Thank you!

The clues are in the poem... solve it in order of the clues found there...
Analyzing each stitch
one discovers their niche
Like a bicycle built for two
for me, for you
(This is a hint for how the stitches are encrypted.)
Votes tallied created
top ranking spaces
From 1st to 8th place places
When there is a tie for rank
neon trumps the bank
As well as triangle-tessellated backgrounds
will win tie ranked rounds
Put them in order, it's not too hard
(This is a hint for how you get an 8 character answer)
(Look up the word tessellated)
Every stitch sewn in the quilt
is an important part built
Analyze each remaining thread
will get you further ahead
(Hint for how to use remaining stitches)
You'll be sitting pretty in the end
with a royal flush hand as friend
(Hint for how to solve metapuzzle)

Thank you from me. I hope I understood the hint "use remaining stitches", previously I tried to use all stitches.
For 3 days I am suffering over the penultimate stage, knowing the latter decision :D

My mistake was that I did not get rid of unnecessary stitches)
I feel like such a jerk, as I did not immediately notice :D

Steamgifts has had some awesome events in the past! Let me share one of the experiences:
Last year during this time Steamgifts had a fun event where connect-the-dot pictures were completed and colored either digitally or manually by many members. During the week that included St. Peter's Basilica we had an amazing 22 people submit their artwork for voting. After the submissions were received, Nordhbane created our own gallery which we could view each piece of art and vote for our top favorites. The following week the winning submission was shown along with host bonus points. There was also a final “Best in the Show” thread.
I took all 22 of these submissions and created a "Steamgifts St. Basilica Quilt" for the puzzle this week. The quilt reminds us that working together as a team beautiful things can be created that aren't possible alone. Many different styles, techniques, and ideas pulled together to make this awesome quilt.
Here is a poem inspired by this quilt:
"SteamGifts St. Peter's Basilica Community Quilt"
aka. SGSPBCQ
Friendship is like a quilt
each square upon another is built
Strong, durable, joined
stitch by stitch
Analyzing each stitch
one discovers their niche
Like a bicycle built for two
for me, for you
Steamgifts is such a place
where each person takes a space
Votes tallied created
top ranking spaces
From 1st to 8th place places
When there is a tie for rank
neon trumps the bank
As well as triangle-tessellated backgrounds
will win tie ranked rounds
Put them in order, it's not too hard
and then you'll discover
a winning trump card!
Every stitch sewn in the quilt
is an important part built
Analyze each remaining thread
will get you further ahead
You'll be sitting pretty in the end
with a royal flush hand as friend
And St. Peter will have welcomed you
commending you for all you do
Note: Collect the passcodes from the 5 landmarks from this week to gain access to a train for the last week of the event!
Schedule for complete event and access to weekly trains can be found HERE
