I second Bioshock and Portal series. Both are REALLY good, however they're both not open world.

Yes, the borderlands series has a really good open world that is a lot of fun. The game is funny, challenging at times and you can play it co-op too!
Some people don't like the drawing style though

this does look like a good game. I wish there was a way to set up a private match amongst friends though.

Sleeping dogs is quite fun. Its kind of like GTA but slightly different since it is in Hong Kong.
