We better get a free upgrade. Although I really doubt it.

According to Trent Oster it will be/have:

• Beamdog exclusive

• D&D 2nd edition rules

• Based on the Throne of Baal version of Infinity Engine (same save format apparently, so it should be compatible with previous game saves)

• Some new content including new voiced characters (perhaps stuff from fan-made mods for BG?)

• Split into BG1:EE (BG1+TotSC) and BG2:EE (BG2+ToB)

• Languages other than English (perhaps)

So... sounds more and more like just a more comprehensive version of BG Tutu.

I really want to care about this but... it all sounds pretty much identical to BG TuTu + choice bits from other mods. That's nice and all but where is something I can't just download today and play right now?

Aside from being official, I can't see much reason to care about it.
For all intent and purpose they may as well wrap up mods released years ago, call it official and sell it. Their work is done for them.

Baldurs Gate II + Throne of Bhaal is my favourite game ever, but I find myself struggling to come up with any reason at all to care about this. To be honest, it's aged very well anyway. It doesn't especially need a remake.
I'd far rather see them put their time into a lesser but still good game that could more desperately use a remake, and ideally promise something that Mods haven't done long ago.
