maybe you haven't installed uplay,i had the same problem.
you have to install uplay,create a profile there,enter the game key to verify you own it and then open the game from uplay with steam still open.then you can play the game.the same goes for AC Brotherhood and Revelations.

I took everyones advice and bought AC2 over ACB..Great dissission but I can't get past the launcher without it crashing. HELP!! I have a MAC ox Yosemite software btw
