Well, recently I posted on here asking if anyone could help with my computer freezing up when I'm gaming. (BTW Thanks everyone for the help!) And one day, I figured it out, It froze because I was manually setting the fans(With Catalyst) when my card has it's own fan management gizmo so it could adjust the fan by itself. (Stupid me for not reading carefully enough in in the manual) But, I was wondering, Is there a way to shut of the automatic fan management gizmo-thingy? I have a SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 6850. Thankys in advance.

TL;DR How can I shut off an automatic fan manager on my graphics card, if it's even possible.

In Catalyst, I have a setting under Performance -> AMD Overdrive that enables manual fan control. Messing with these settings always involves some element of risk, but I do not think it is risky for anyone with a modicum of common sense.

That's what I was using, and I like using that, I probably would just let the card do its thing but the constant sound of the fan going faster and slower down annoys me, I just want it to be at one constant speed lol.

I don't really understand.

If you go the manual route permanently, you will have to set it at the highest speed it needs to keep the card cool under peak usage. So instead of it being loud sometimes, it will be loud all the time.

I didn't understand the original question either. You said manually controlling the fan was making your system lock up, but you want to shut off the automatic fan control. It's not very clear to me what you are trying to do. It sounds to me like you already figured out how to shut off the automatic fan gizmo thingy, as you say. Was your system locking up because it was getting too hot in manual?

No, it was locking up because for some reason, me using manual fan control, and the automatic fan somehow didn't like eachother. and I want to use manual because at peak usage my card runs at 75 degrees C but the fan will only be at like 40%, and I figure, if I put it up 10-20% I can play games without it being as hot as an oven. But, If i adjust the fans manually, about 20-30 mins into a game it will lock up.

Could just use Catalyst or MSI Afterburner to that.

I am not sure but on my 6850 the manual fan controls in the CCC work correctly. I would say try to set it to max or whatever manually and give it a reboot. Alternately I would get a driver cleaner and uninstall all drivers for it wipe it clean and then reinstall the latest drivers. Every time I update drivers for the ATI card it requires me to clean out the old to get CCC to work correctly. Aside from those 2 possibilities which you may have tried already I'm out of ideas :/
