Bump for "I know what's on the image, but still don't know what to do with that".

Well, the hint confirms what I suspected earlier, but I don't have the same tool you used when creating the puzzle (or at least the tool whose name and version can be found there). As already mentioned by some other users, the popular freeware alternative cannot fully process the format you chose.
(I'm being deliberately vague here so as not to spoil the puzzle, but if you want, I can be more specific.)

AHH! So that's why I didn't get anywhere! 'cause I tried Gimp as well already and it led me nowhere. (I even installed another tool which sadly was of no help either).

It's alright, really :) I'm just glad that the reason I couldn't solve it wasn't that I'm just too dumb lol

No problem. :-) I actually work in this field, and I kinda hate this data format, mainly because there is no standardized way to represent volumetric data. And I really really don't want to bring out the big guns such as Matlab for this. ;-)

I swear, I love puzzles but this is just frustrating. I know what it is but I have zero clue as to what to do with it and it's driving me crazy ô_ô

Welcome to my first organized trip to the past!
To start with something unconventional please punch your ticket bump the thread before jumping on the train.
Here is the station. Please jump in before the train leaves!
Mind the gap and the thin layer of oil which is close to your feet. The train company isn't in any way responsible for any injury.
Edit: I forgot to mention that the whole train is intended for Lv. 2 passengers except one car which was accidentally set free of any restriction.
Edit2: After 5h the first hint is highlighted
Edit3: There's a problem for those who feel lost and keep looking at the sky searching for the Pole Star. Unluckly the only tool which will 100% work to find the right path to the station seems to be Photoshop or its trial version (which is quite heavy if i recall correctly).
I'm tring to solve this issue but any free tool I tried so far won't be of any use. Please accept my deepest apologies in the meanwhile.
