Never had overlaying ads at all..
Only when I get some kind of malware or virus I get overlay scam ads and redirections in my browser.. so be sure it really isnt that..

Just to be sure, like a few other people mentioned, if cleaning out cookies doesn't help, you might have malware so it'd be a good idea to grab Malwarebytes or whatever and give it a scan. Wouldn't hurt to reinstall your browser either, just to save the headache of fixing settings if anything got messed around with. Actually it might be a good idea to just find a solid antivirus with malware protection and just scan the whole PC. When I used to work on PC's as my job, at least half the time someone needed malware removed, they had other garbage too (virus, PUPs, more malware, other infected browsers, browser clones...).

I posted about something like that last year though mine was a full-screen ad blocking the site from a legitimate ad...

About a month ago I had a similar problem while checking SG using my phone - multiple redirects leading to a scam site. It was happening on both devices I had, with and without wifi. Cleaning cookies didn't help (I tried numerous times). I had to manually block one of the sites to prevent further redirects. I checked few days later and it's been ok since.

Ads are on most websites. The ads you get are based on both your browsing history, but I believe shared browsing history between devices (seeing you use an Apple device) may also come into play. If you're visiting shady sites on your Mac, you may see similar ads show up here.
You don't want ads? How about supporting SG's Patron account? ;)
...tbh though, I get lots of random ads that have NO bearing on what I've been browsing, and I have google ads and analytics disabled for as much of my browsing as possible. Maybe you have the same problem - you don't have enough data, and so google is just feeding random ads?

MalWareBytes Browser Guard...
https://www.malwarebytes.com/browserguard/
Browser extension, works for Windows OS only, and only Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, for now.
Doesn't seem to use many resources (according to Chrome task manager), but does seem to work a bit better than Ad Blocker Plus for me. And seems to not trigger the "We see you are using an ad blocker" pop-up as often for me, in Incognito mode (make sure to enable extensions in Incognito to use it if you run Incog most of the time.)
Just an option, up to you if you trust it, the permissions ot asks for, and if you trust MalWareBytes or not.
(And yes, I know this won't help the OP, who is using iOS, but might be useful for others who come to this thread with concerns about a Widows device or devices they use.)

Don´t know if this is the right place for this but I noticed that for a few days now ads have appeared on SG that do a full-screen overlay and block browser controls. They are all of the same type, usually scam about being "picked as the winner" etc.
I know these can be blocked with an adblocker but I always had mine disabled here so the site can get some income from ads.
Should I reach out to support with screenshots and logs or does SG not really care about this?
