Is drama in groups a big deal? I got a job recently and decided to start gifting here, because I have won some games and think of giving back., don't know if I should join a group or just gift randomly. Whitelists are strange to me, because I don't know what criteria I should use to whitelist or blacklist people. . .

then just give to the wider community. Groups limit who can enter the GA, so it's more like a bunch of people trading with each other - but a bit more random

Then why don't they just trade?
Guess I'll just gift random games publicly. . .

because they get cv and increase their level, then they can leech bigger games.

IMO there are three reasons for groups:

1) promotions of some sort
2) group of friends (sort of like a whitelist, but not)
3) randomized trading

for that last one, well, some people don't want to just gift and gift, they want something in return. Doesn't mean it has to be a 1-for-1 trade, but that way you know you'll probably get stuff back fairly consistently. Hell, some groups require the members to give away games at fixed intervals.

I'm not gonna judge, it's just not something I'd do.

Group admin was blacklisted by OP. Group wanted to force OP to remove admin from said blacklist. Edit: and now said admin is forcing remaining group members to blacklist OP as retaliation.

that's what I thought the issue was. But that seemed too obvious. I mean, seriously, you'd have to be retarded to not understand why you'd get kicked out of the group for that.

Won 2 games admin asked me to make a GA (Ok is in the rules)

Admin said don't make GA for "bad games", my spidey sense detected the admin wants "good games", and I make a GA with admin blocked to know, and then you can read everything there.

Why do you enter a group with a blacklisted admin by you? I hope this makes sense sometimes English is hard :(

Permalink

Try to "switch around" the first and last part of a sentence. In some languages this is a good way to start building an English translation. "Why did you enter a group | where you blacklisted the admin?"

Depends on the group.
Admins in PosTho won't eject anyone for blacklisting them, since users in the group have full rights over their blacklist :) Anyone that gets ejected for that reason could appeal and get readmitted.
Though my co-admins are lovely people, so only a monster would blacklist them anyway! >:|
I don't pay any mind to others' blacklists whatsoever, so no bother there :'P

Anyone can blacklist anyone for any reason. And a group owner can kick anyone for any reason. It's not really a question of what's fair.

Unfortunatly, he can do that. But I guess if he's forcing people to his will, most smart people will leave that group soon enough.

Be above them. Why would you care about some sad people. Care about people that make SG community cool.

Or don't really care at all, it will be easier that way.

Anyway, they are not worth your time.

you were in a group with a lv3 admin registered 2 months ago, what did you expect?

it's pretty sad to see people desperate to join any group that appears from nowhere just to have a +0.01% chance of winning something on sg.

Hm, it sounds like you were trying to prove that he faked the rule violation by editing in extra rules? If that's true it's really horrible behaviour, but I'm not sure if it's any offense on SG since private groups are unregulated as far as I know... :(

I'm pretty sure that if you leave the group the giveaway will still work the way it should. To be on the safe side just stay in the group until the giveaway is over. Either way I'm pretty sure that you'll do fine without that group :)

Permalink

Ah, I see. I'm not completely sure, but I think since you made the giveaway while being in the group it will just run its course and will end with a winner from the group (even if you are not a member anymore).

You can delete the GA if you want.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Just will delete it if no one on the group can see it

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Not sure what you mean.

If you aren't in the group and everyone there is going to blacklist you, then there is no reason to keep the giveaway running. Otherwise you will have to send a key to someone in that group. So you should just delete the giveaway and make a new one for other people to join. You can delete the giveaway bu submitting a ticket here.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

So long as the giveaway is still running, you can access the deletion for it by clicking on the "Delete Giveaway" on the left side of the screen when on the giveaway's page. :)

Not really "submitting" a ticket, either, since deletion requests for active giveaways are always auto-approved~

Group doesn't sound especially worth keeping the giveaway up for, so that may be a fair call.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yes, access to giveaways is based on their group association, nothing else.
Meaning, for example, if you got kicked from a group, you couldn't later look at a giveaway you'd won from that group.

People will still be able to enter just fine.

Likewise, you can still enter until you sync SG, though that is guaranteed grounds for a reroll- and extremely dickish besides.
So your call, there.

While at one hand yes, he can, at the other hand is a good thing you're avoiding a group managed by this guy.

He rejected my invite because I had an argument with another group owner (that is not from an small group, it has hundreds of people), and this other owner do the same kind of stuff, when they kick someone, they ask for everyone in the group to blacklist who was kicked.

And the argument started because I was a member of this other group, and their owner didn't liked the people from this another group (because they had an argument for something else before, dunno and don't care, this is so dumb, worse than high school gossip drama...). Then when I made some shared GAs with both groups without knowing about this history (btw shared GAs were allowed), he blacklisted me at his profile and his "son" profile (which is a 4 year old kid... btw really smart way to avoid being suspended for multiple accounts).

Then I asked why, he said "Well I dunno, I will talk to my son, but he have is always have good reasons", all cynical and such. Then I added him to ask what his problem with me were, he said a lot of shit and kicked me out of the group.

I mean, sure. Be 40 like this guy is and act like a 10 year old.

So the owner of this "Atomic Gifts" apparently was a member of this other group and when I asked for an invite he denied based on I being kicked from this other group, without even knowing what happened. And acted all sarcastic. Like "MWAHAHA I have POWAAAR to deny you an invite MWAHAHA".

There are PLENTY of GREAT groups out there, run by great people with great ideas, so I would avoid these kind of groups that are run by new members and probably young kids. You're just saving yourself from further stress. These people never been active in the SG community (if you check their members profiles, its 99% group giveaways), they just joined to participate in these groups and leech. SG for them is more like a tool (like we use SGTools), instead of being an community. Their community is elsewhere, at brazilian facebook groups and such. Its there where they talk, post rules, change rules, discuss. So they will make use of SG as a tool, and its features like kick, blacklist, whitelist, etc, as they please to fulfill their beliefs.

So have this in mind: Some of this groups are NOT SteamGifts, yes they use SteamGifts, but they do not represent the community. These people act like 10 year old children and their rules and moral values will be based on that. They are just closed, small communities (this means that they only interact with each other, they do not interact with the rest of SteamGifts) and as such they will have arbitrary and sometimes nonsense rules, and will abuse the freedom of doing that.

I'm not saying he couldn't do it in this particular case, but you probably would face something worse in the future.

Exactly! There are great groups out there. I would suggest anyone to just stick to groups from people that they see in forums, that they know something about, so they save themselves from this kind of stress.

And ty for the tldr, I'm clueless about how much I write. :/

Aside from being kicked out of a group, blacklisting is a free-for-fall system without regulation. Fair to everyone because the power of blacklisting is given to every Steamgift member.
