"A 19-year old by the name of Alexander J. Velicky wanted a job at Bethesda so much that he spent 2,000 hours creating an Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim mod called Falskaar as an application. "

The landscape is one third of Skyrim .

Sadly, he'll soon become very discontent about the lack of care Bethesda puts into their own games and bitter about their stupid design decisions.

I'd give him a job. He clearly cares more about the games than Bethesda themselves so whatever.

Probably true...

That might be a reason to not give him a job though, I mean why would you want the new guy to outshine you :-P.

Same here, first time I am hearing about Backspace. They are independent company (more or less), so maybe they will reconsider bringing this project to life after completing Project Eternity? Ehh...

HE used over 100 people for a Skyrim mod for voices and ideas. Bethesda had maybe 25 people working on Skyrim alone, with like 4 voice actors for the entire population. Methinks he should start his own studio and make games

There were alot more than 4 voice actors in skyrim as the fans requested more varieted voicing after oblivion.

I never heard any difference. Wait, I take it back. Add the children and there were a few more, but not that many. yeah you're right. But they still used some of the worst ones for the men. Like Festus Krex in the Dark brotherhood. the guy that voiced him did a terrible job. Ok, they added a few new voices, but they need to just scrap the actors they use and hire true professionals. Going into towns and hear the same man and woman voice for the entire population gets old.

They apparently had 70 voice actors. I don't fucking believe them, personally.

Too bad "generic" characters (like guards) use one voice actor instead of even 5, so everytime you walk around different towns you hear same guy wondering about your sweet-rolls and knees.

Just look here, one guy to voice most Nord Guards, one guy for most Argonians, one for most Orcs.

I want videos of every one of them recording or I don't believe it. Aside from Sydow and Plummer, I maintain only about 6 VAs are even used.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1814884/fullcredits?ref_=tt_cl_sm#cast

A lot of important characters had voice actors that did just one character, so theres not a lot of variation in the random NPCs. Male Nords had like 4 actors, Female Nords had like 3, and each other race/gender got a single person.

Not perfect but still a huge improvement over Oblivion.

You can show all the credits you want, I refuse to believe every single one of them is in the game. Unless Bethesda is just a sadistic company who only likes hearing 3 or 4 voices and manipulated every actor's voice to sound the exact same, I still call bullshit

Well uh, if you really want to believe you can believe whatever you want, I can't do anything about that. Personally I didn't think the various guild leaders or Daedric Princes sounded much like the random Nords.

I do. Granted, they do sound like they've been run through a cheap voice changer

Guild leaders or Princes sounds unique, true. But you meet them like few times during whole game and then they are gone and forgotten. On the other hand, you talk with shopkeepers and you hear city-banter for like half of your game, and you hear same voice doing everyone in those towns - that's where those voice acting should go.

Its impressive really but the mod scene for TES is pretty vast and has been for many years. It is certainly elevated with skyrim but the best mods are still coming :)

I seriously envy him for knowing how to do all that by himself and having all kinds of ressources for it, I'm one year younger than him and still don't know anything useful about game programming, to think being a game developer one day is my dream job..

Also, it's a good thing there are still lads out there who put actual effort into what they come up with, there are lots of games lately that really lack creativity or could've been tons better if only done well, just my 2 cents.

I agree with you Malek about devs taking more time to make a game the best that it can be. Mediocrity is not something to aspire to ;)

It really makes me glad when real talent is recognized. There are so many kids out there who spout nonsense like "me and my friends are making a game herpderpderp" or "i want to make a game, here's my idea hurr" that it becomes hard to spot the ones who actually has talent and the necessary skills to back up their claims.
