Hey all,
So I have just won my first giveaway in mirrors edge but the key that is showing is a duplicate key for a totally different game. Should I contact the GA creator?

Ok so I talked to the guy on steam and all he had to say was "I don't know" and "a guy gave me the key" which I don't think is good enough. I got very excited about winning a game and for it to be a dud straight up is a little disheartening. I gues my next move is to create a support ticket?

If he does not provide a working key for the correct game after 7 days that you won, then mark it as not received.

there's nothing support can do, mark as not received and move on.

If I win a gift, when can I expect to receive it?

  • Giveaway creators are allowed one week to send the gift after the giveaway has ended. Depending on the type of gift and the giveaway creator, you might receive the gift to the e-mail address you have listed on the account page, a key might be added beside the gift you won, or the giveaway creator might have sent you a friend request on Steam to make the exchange. Please remain patient, and do not contact the giveaway creator during this time. If the gift is not received after one week, you can mark the gift as not received, and attempt to contact the giveaway creator on Steam to follow-up.

Yip, just as you had stated.

General

  • Use the appropriate avenues for support. If you have an issue with another user, submit a ticket with a user report, rather than calling them out within the community or on the forum.

I am not sure how that is calling them out : \ and I was told support can't do anything.

Whoever told you that support cannot do anything is salty at support.

Mark as not received after 7 days, keep your chat logs, and also keep them private from regular members here, and go from there.

Since you've already contacted the creator, mark as not received after 7 days. Then move on, no need to contact support, or have started this thread in the first place.

Well there was a need to start this thread as I wasn't sure weather to contact support or not. And thanks for the advice. I will wait 7 days and mark as not received.

why shouldn't he ask how to proceed in such a case? he won something, he probably won't get it. of course he can ask what to do.

Because it's already in FAQ. Sure, in this case he's given a key albeit a wrong one, I just see no reason why he needs permission to ask the creator right away, or he could have just wait and ask later. Either way, I don't see how contacting support would help, unless the creator has a history of creating fake giveaways. Not to mention, this is not the first time I saw this question on the forum and I haven't been here for very long, he could have used search.

and that it's in the FAQ means, that he is not allowed to ask the community? come on, he won his first game and got a duplicate key. i am totally fine with asking then. especially because this specific case is not explicity mentioned in the FAQ. yes, technically there is everything you need to know there. but it doesn't hurt to ask the guys who are more experienced here.

Never said he is not allowed to ask, rather there is no need to.

I did do a search for "duplicate keys" and wrong keys but nothing seemed to refer to my situation. Either way I know now what to do in case this happens again thanks to the experienced members who replied, and it is really just another thread that may help someone in the future with the same problem. Thanks guys. :)

if you are not sure about something in the FAQ, there is no need to ask anyone? i disagree.

I do agree with you on that. However, I would not agree that the previous topics, in addition to the guidelines/information provided by the site in regards to handling of this situation are insufficient. I'm not looking to be convinced otherwise, nor am I interested in this debate. My opinions in previous replies still stand.

I see that it was Mirror's Edge you were supposed to get. I don't have a steam key for it but I do have an old Origin key from Humble. If you really want to play Mirror's Edge and don't care whether it's on Steam or not, let me know, I'll give you my Origin key.

I know it seems weird but the rule for "no calling out" means no including names when dealing with any "accusatory" case. Even when the case seems (or just IS) very clear cut, exclude names.

Thanks for the clarification Sinovera. And thank you for the offer. I have played the game back when it cam out so I am not in extreme need of a key. I was just happy to have won a giveaway and downed when it was a dud. Cheers anyway :)

What a dick move. For me this page is all about being a good person, what other reason would you have to give away games?! So why would people create fake giveaways..?! Just to get a higher level and get into better giveaways? Scum.

Edit: I hope the next giveaway you win will be legit!
