Have you also considered turned based strategy games like Civilization? only need a mouse really.

If you are not gonna play online, regular RTS is usually also just playable with mouse only (you might be a bit slower, not using the shortkeys others will, is why I am talking about offline).

I was going to post a sarcastic remark from the title of your post, then i clicked and read it. I honestly don't know of many because I dont play that type of game =/. I heard microsoft flight simulator was good, perhaps look into that? you could get him a racing game that you can use a wheel for. You only reallly need one had for "driving". For lefthanded joysticks i guess you could try http://www.thrustmaster.com/en_UK/products/t16000m you might be able to find one on ebay or something.. No clue about the quality of it. You could also look into one handed controllers like http://benheck.com/Games/Xbox360/controls/1hand/front_final.jpg . You could also look for foot operated controllers if he ever wanted to play something with a mouse and a keyboard.

Wheel is my second option but he really likes flight games actually. He also will like Civilization i guess. I'll consider these. Thanks a lot.

Flight Simulator X should be good, when he doesnt have it already...doesnt need so many keys so he doesnt need to switch over to the keyboard so often and some joysticks have 6-10 keys for keyboard actions(engine, flaps and so on) which you can use then, or better he...

The Community around the Microsoft Flight Simulator is huge...there are plenty of free Mods/Planes and so on for it and even more to buy(sometimes really expensive)...when he love something like that it would be right for him...

The other Flight Sim would be XPlane 10(or 11? dont know which version they are). But thats a huge game. Full world installation is around 55gb...there are plenty of mods and missions too, booth games are "mostly the same"(please dont slap me, i know there are plenty changes. especially in the aerodynamic and so on. but for half casuals its mostly the same!)but i like the graphic from MS Flight Sim more...dont know why^^...i grow up with that sim :D

Joystick i dont really know, but would love to know it too ;) im a lefty too and want a stick again...but its not easy to find one where you can change the sides and which isnt so expensive...

Actually im looking for an Thrustmaster T.16000M, isnt so expensive and you can change the parts so that it fits for leftys...some of the Saitek Joysticks are for booth hands too(Aviator, Cyborg, 3D, Evo)...maybe one of them would be a good choice for him...

I grew up on X-Wing vs TIE Fighter and while I agree that it's worth playing, I'm not sure it a) qualifies as a flight simulation in what OP wants and b) I still think I used both hands while playing it.

Yeah Civilization V.. very good flight simulation indeed.
Seriously tough, if you want a good flight simulator you can't go wrong with Flight Simulator X deluxe OR Flightgear, which is a freeware that's been in the work for like 15 years now and that's getting much prettier in the recent years. Both support a usb joystick and can be played online. Hope that helps.

Probably hard to find, quite dated, and not really a simulator, but: Crimson Skies... Really cool game and should work with only joystick if my memory is correct...

MS Flight or FSX or Aerofly. Cyborg V.1.

Never ever buy a DCS title for a one handed man as a gift ^^ (you can download the free version and try)

Get FSX. My avatar is FSX with very slow pc :)

Il-2 Sturmovik 1946. A bit dated, but still the best choice when it comes to WW2 simulation. Huge modding community.

Currently part of this bundle http://www.bundlestars.com/all-bundles/Superpower-Sims-Bundle/ for 6 bucks.

DCS Warthog is probably the best flight sim I've played, but if he's only using one hand, it could be a problem, as there is a lot of mousing and/or keyboard shortcuts.

Most flight sims involve some degree of keyboard action, although you may find that at the more arcadey end of the spectrum, you might get away with a joystick on its own (especially if it's got some sort of throttle built in - not necessarily a full blown HOTAS setup though)

Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. 2 is kinda good. And maybe War Thunder? I haven't played it but I heard it's good, so you can give it a try.

The problem is your dad can only use one hand - so you need to be careful which game you get. Most people here are saying to get Microsoft Flight Simulator, but they don't realise that requires a Joystick AND a Throttle - like a HOTAS (Hands On Throttle And Stick) Joystick. Now, if your joystick has a small pushable throttle, this could work. But ultimately you have to do many other things such as flaps, gear, get take off clearance, tail-hook, etc...

People are also recommending DCS, which is just about out of the question. Playing DCS without a HOTAS controller is very hard, and a large amount of action happens on the keyboard as well, like many before have stated.

It is probably best to look at a ARCADE flight simulator - rather than a normal flight simulator. They are much easier to play, and are much more suitable for this situation. Great arcade flight simulators are H.A.W.X 1 & 2, War Thunder (Free-To-Play) and Ace Combat: Assault Horizons - all on steam, and on sale at the moment.
