Short giveaways that ends usually within a day or even few hours has this pro, that not that much people can entry them, so there is always higher chance to win for those who are lucky to see them. But in other hand, You could just miss such, so it's higher chance to see the giveaway if it's set to end after a day or few. But there is more people who entry, so the chances for winning are lower in the exchange.

What do You think?

Also do You prefer giveaways without or low contribution level requirment or higher, but sometimes higher than Your own level? The same as above...
When level is lower, more people can entry, but with too high level it can exceed Yours.

As I intend to continue giving games away, I would like to know what You prefer. I just achieved 6 level myself, so it's pretty good time to ask the question, right?

It depends on the giveaway. If I just want to burn the points I'm joining the short, early ending ones, but if there is some fun puzzle or jigsaw it's better to have at least some time to think about it. And of course there are events like holiday one or forum events, those should be as long as possible (like longest train in discussions). :D

PS. offtopic. I thought I'm the only one living person who remembers the series from your avatar xD

Oh, pretty logical :D I think I actually prefer quick ones, If I was the lucky one xD But it goes like that: games from wishlist come first, then there go games with cards... But the latter are just to burn points, cause usually either I want pretty expensive games, or I already own what could have been given away, so there is no much wishlisted giveaways for me here. Also, when there is too many wishlisted games, usually it's when there is a bundle... and I buy most of bundles anyway :D

To PS: Haha, tbh, it's my favourite anime ex aequo with Digimon. But Digimon is more sentimentally fav, while Slayers is just that the world is so damn well done and original, characters are nice too. So objectively, Slayers is better, but I like both as my top1 fav :D

Fun fact: in the original dota the hero had the full name of Lina Inverse, with signature black magic spell Dragon Slave (which carried on to dota 2, though she dropped the lastname of Inverse)

As Szaszke said, original Lina Inverse is from the Slayers series. She appeared in original DoTa mod to Warcraft 3 but In Dota 2 they had to rename her cause of copyright rights. So Lina from Dota 2 is a fake and most people doesn't even know that :D. Lodoss Wars is entirely different series from Slayers. But we're making offtop here...

I really can't decide! I enter only the giveaways I like and I'm going to activate, install, play and so on so I don't really mind about the end time!
Plus, I enter almost only giveaways with multiple copies, level 7+ or groups since I'm not that lucky xD I don't enter in almost any invite-only giveaway!
On the other hand, I tend to do short giveaways for games with the most entries possible (i.e.: lvl 1+) but for the "big" games with cards, achievements, 10$/20$ etc. or full value, I tend to make them for my whitelist or my few groups, sometimes for lvl 7 or 8+ only, so I prefer to make them week-long since I hope that nobody spends their life every day on the Internet.. so that everyone has a chance to enter and win! =)
Though, it really depends! I love to make many giveaways of games I positively reviewed both for some hours or some days only and for a wide public, plus I've got only 2-3 users in my blacklist so really everyone can enter!! :')
And as I said I really don't mind about the time, I feel quite unlucky but I'm agnostic and I don't believe in a serious way in these things, I live my life in a happy and light-hearted way xD So they may have 10 or 1000 entries, as long as I feel I want the game (and so far apart from the first days when I made tons of errors I don't have non-received wins or giveaways sent) I enter without paying too much attention to everything else =P

I'm still undecided about making a level limit, cause... well, not everyone has money to give the games away and people register here to win games, not give them, mostly. But I think I would set longer duration for games that are non bundled, better ones from now on. So not only lucky ones get the chance. But bundled games... there is tons of giveaways for them, so I think it won't be any loss for people :D

Well? I do not really understand what I am writing.
If it is an event, it may be long.
If it is a whitelist or group, it can be long.
If you use SGtools, it can be somewhat long.
Do not limit Lv? Do you want to give it to everyone?
Pray to what you believe, quickly enter a short time. Probably it is truth.

PS Slayers NEWSIt is probably what you need.

I think I will make low level requirements to make them available not for only those who have given away many games. But the duration of giveaway would be more or less as long as the value. If the game is bundled and it's plenty of them, the time will be short, but better games with full value could be set for longer, to make it possible for more people. I think that would be the best, but still I'm not sure.

Also the info... I don't really understand. Google Translate make it even worse xD

Dunno, it's kinda opposite to me. I have two jobs and I'm often staying at my girlfriend's place for weeks during which I don't log in to SG at all. So I generally don't enter long giveaways if I'm not sure I'll be able to check it during the usual 7-days waiting period after it ends. Also some creators get jumpy if their gift isn't redeemed in 24 hours or so.

My giveaways are mostly longer, as I am afraid if anyone would join them. ^^ As others said its good to give them some time if you are planning to do some puzzle. But short giveaways are more like an adrenaline experience, especially if you find them on the last moment. ;)
About contributor level... thats hard to say, I would vote for not higher than 4, as I am now there. ;D But that's really just upon you, what number you like for example. ;) I don't stress it out, if I can't join. :)

I rather won't make puzzle, cause I don't bother. I usually giveaway like 5-10 games at the same time, so I don't want to create a riddle to every of them. All my giveaways are public, as I don't have any public groups and I don't even know if I ever added anyone to whitelist either.
Contributor level... untill this day, all my giveaways (I think but one?) were lvl-free. Everyone could enter. I think I will still be making bundled games for everyone, without level restriction, but games that has higher value could be from now on higher that that. I thought about 1-3, but I'm still not sure...

In the end its your decision and every will be right. :)

Yeah, I know xD But usually I gave the games after the Humble hours, because I bout it around release hour or even 1-2 later. So it's night for me. 1 hour ga's make me the pro of sending the keys and many people activate it even almost the same time, before I sleep. Not everyone, but still. If I go sleep, after sending the keys, when I wake up, most people could have set games as received. I understand what 1 hour means and think that 1 day is the best... but I'm still impatient one xD

I don't care myself, I usually max see 30 giveaways anyway so I join all that I see, with almost 14k hidden games I never finish my points anyway.
But short giveaways can suck because they can end before I even saw that, but besides that I could care less.

Short or medium timeframe, medium level by public GA's.
That not the worst leechers and rule breakers win it and the win chances are nice.
Longer and lower level for group/WL GA's.

My GA's are mostly 3 days and mostly level 2+ because i avoid to make public GA's since a lot of very bad experiences.

Comment has been collapsed.

Well, all my ga's are public, cause I don't have groups etc. I don't have any thing to make for invite only giveaways either.
I thought, making the game for everyone would be most fair. I mean, not everyone has to give away games to get a chance to win. IMO it's pretty nor worth. Pay 1000$ to have higher chance to win 50$ game. And You probably won't anyway. That's why my ga's were 0lvl public ones. However I consider making the level requirement like 1-3 for example... Still not sure.

at level 0 you have at least 75% winners with red marks at sgtools because of not activated/multi wins, people that don't know the word thanks and the autojoiner/bot users that take foreever to activate the key and set a recieved.
All in all a lot of work to check and report + a lot of time before all is done.

The year at sg teached me... before i make level 0 public GA's i throw the keys in the trash

But each one can do with there GA's whatever they want.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Tbh, I never had any problems with that. Of course, there is always the black sheep that won't mark the key as received. But usually most of the people not only say thanks, but also mark won keys very quickly. Within next day or even minutes/hours after I sent them.
Also, many of the keys I giveaways are pretty good games. Some of them are of course bundled, but this doesn't meant the game is bad. Also I also gave away Monthly games. I gave away Dark Souls 3 for example, cause I bought it already like week or month ago (not sure when). I don't like to play with reselling the keys, cause usually such games are pretty cheap and I get more value when I get the CV here and someone will be happy too, if he is the winner of such.
I think, lvl1 would be okay, but making it higher is a bit unfair IMO. Maybe for games of higher value (like aforementioned Dark Souls 3). Still, all my ga's are public, cause I don't have whitelists, groups etc.

I think I need to make some rules what requirements I will set to what games. Cause, like You say, some people just enter and either have a game already or sell the game etc. Tbh, sometimes I entered ga to games I owned, because I didn't realize it. I mean... I have plenty of games from bundles, from free ga's or from SteamGifts etc. Sometimes I don't remember if I already got the game and for some reason, there are giveaways I can enter even having the game. But I turned on the icon on ESGST to mark owned games, so now I know which one I have and I just click striked eye to disable it from my visibility on the site. Cause I don't really need to win the game I already have.

I often, though not always, make my GAs last at least a day. Reasons for that are 1) not everyone lives in the same timezone and 2) people have to sleep and work.
Take me for an example, due to safety concerns we can't use our phones at work. That alone takes 8.5h out of my day and the internet connection during my commute is bad at best... so take away another + 2h. I don't think I'm the only one with this kind of situation. So I prefer for other users to make their GAs last 1 day + and try to make my GAs last that long too.

As w/r/t level...
I have made GAs for every level here. Usually I go by the value I place on a GA, the lower the value the lower the level requirement. Most of my public and forum GAs are somewhere in the range of level 3 to 5.

When I gave out giveaways I put them at 24 hours. (public)
It gives everyone a chance to join it but they won't become massively big. Thus people actually have a chance to win.

Now all my giveaways are going to be invite only with whitelist and group.

I prefer 24+ hour giveaways, and what I always use for mine, because I don't want to have to spend all day on SG and I don't want to require that from others. This way everyone that's active daily gets a chance and someone doesn't miss out because they were sleeping of busy with real life stuff.

On the flip side, I feel like 3-4 week giveaways are unnecessarily long. Unless you're timing them for a specific event, why make them that long? If you want to give everyone a chance, a week seems plenty long enough for that.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I agree. I don't get those week+ giveaways. I wait for them so long. I mean, it's nice when I want to re-entry later. I mean. The new giveaway appeared for game that cost 50P for entry, only 1 hours left. So I remove my entry from those who last longer and entry the newly one. But this is the only advantage for me as a joiner.

I would say: keep to the middle. 1-2 days would be a kind choice to give the chance to enter it to people from all time zones. Talking about levels, I prefer setting low limitations (1-2-3), but I can also understand why some people always create high level GAs. :)

The best ga's are those who last 5 seconds and I am the only one who clicked fast enough to win xD (yeah, I know there is 5 person limit xD). My GA's are a bit random, depending on when I'll be available or how I'm feeling. Lately they've been anywhere from 24 to 72 hours, but I like throwing up the "flash sales" every once and a while.

I have no idea what ga's winners of my ga's made. I never checked others if they ever did. Only check if they own the game or not.
I get the reason, but IMO targetting people who are unlucky is still unfair. I mean, they can be unlucky now, but later won almost only AAA games. Also I don't know how many ga's they entered. If they won e.g. 1 game but entered 100 ga's it's not being unlucky, while someone who won 50 games entered like 1,000,000 ga's.One who won 1 game, won 1% of entered ga's, while the second one., who won 50 times more, won just 0,005%. So who is unlucky here? Also, for me, they are both equal. They both had the same chances of winning a giveaway, so just because someone won less, that's how probability works.

At creating giveaways I'm not sure I ever had a shorter than 24 hour giveaway.Same chances for everyone!
(I think I only made longer than 48hour long giveaways for events, I like the 1-2days length. Longer is unecessary for me.)

I'm not interested in entering giveaways with tons of entries (hence me very rarely joining public giveaways, and therefore also the reason I mostly only create private giveaways). A giveaway running for a long time would allow me more chance of stumbling across it before it ends, sure, but it's pointless because it'll get so many entries I'll have no chance to win it.

By entering short-running giveaways, I occasionally stumble across giveaways, and maintain a decent chance of winning. I prefer it that way. Of course, it all depends on the specific situation, but in general I prefer short giveaways over long ones.
