1.6 and Source are similar in that they're both Counter Strike; they have the same weapons (minus riot shield in CSS) and the same maps, more or less.
Where the games differ is in the engine that they're built upon and player hitboxes. A hitbox is an invisible area over a character that registers when they've been shot. The 1.6 hitboxes are smaller due to the models themselves being smaller than those of CSS. This makes for a slightly more difficult experience as it's generally harder to shoot someone.
The player models in CSS are bigger than they were in 1.6, plus the hitboxes are bigger still. They span outside the actual player model, so often a player will be killed even though technically their player model wasn't even shot (this isn't as bad as it might sound).
The graphics are also different, as I'm sure you're aware. I personally really like how Goldsource games like 1.6 and HL look, so it isn't really a problems for me and I tend to enjoy the overall feel of 1.6 more than Source.
Weapons in each game behave in a similar fashion, but again they're slightly different. For example, in CS, each weapon's recoil follows a general rule. So, if you're too spray your weapon and empty the entire magazine, the weapon will behave similarly every time (for example, a gun may move up, then reach a maximum height and begin to sway left and right). Through this, you're able to learn how a weapon reacts and combat against it so the bullets go where you want them to.
I may be going a little too deep into game mechanics and you probably don't care, so I'll just finish up by saying you'll probably enjoy Source more if you're a more casual player. My advice is to look up some videos on YouTube and see which you think you'll enjoy more and go with that one.

1.6 has much more feel than css/csgo, but csgo has the potential to be like 1.6 but with updated graphics, i prefer 1.6 > csgo > css
