@OP:Well, I know I won't get it, but you've obviously played it so far, right? so is it worth it really? should I get it?
I've never played any of Arma title, but I'd like to try it and see what all this fuss is about. Though I'm not really into simulator games, is it like a hardcore simulator? is it just a realistic game?

In my opinion it's really good. There's lots of small improvements over ArmA 2 which make it the best game to just "pick up and play" of the series. As far as the genre goes, it's all up to how you decide to play it. You could play it as a hardcore military simulator, but you could also play it as an extremely realistic shooter - it depends on how you choose to play it.

All-in-all though, it is geared towards the hardcore military sim side, as the game is designed to be played as if you were actually in a squad, communicating and working with your team, etc. There's a variety of different user-created game-modes though that can differ in how you're forced to play them.

EDIT: Also, if you do plan on getting it I'd get it while it's in Alpha so you save some money as well.
