What kind of survivor are you?
I'd probably just end up curling up into a ball and cry until I'd freeze to death.
..or something along these lines.

Or maybe just when you would start giving up, it would turn out that there is someone else who is even in a worse situation than you and the only person who could help them is you.

If I'm their only hope, there's no chance they will survive haha. Seriously.

I will tell you what would happen. You would either save them or die trying. That's what happens in that kind of situation and there is no other way. You couldn't simply watch them die knowing that you didn't even try to help them.

Oh believe me, I could. I'm not the person to be "heroic" enough to save people. Maybe I'd try, I don't know. It's depending on so many different things. But since it most likely won't ever happen, eh, whatever.

I believe in that situation in which seconds make difference, you would do the right thing.

You did not need to sell me on this game because I was dying to play it but your experience makes me want to play it EVEN MORE! I don't know why cannot I just buy it.. It's really hard for me to actually buy a game for myself... but so many giveaways! I am feeling lucky! :D
Thank you as always for your mega generosity!

I almost always get a game for myself when I get a game for a GA. It's a bit like all my GAs are games which were on my wishlist.

Starving + Depression isn't that bad, I'd probably just lock myself in a house and stare out the windows until I die.

You wouldn't even try to check out what's in that fridge over there in the corner?

If I had a chance at survival, I would try, but I know my limitations, there are are many, and I would probably give up when I deem my situation hopeless.
Comment has been collapsed.
You never know what does that chance look like until you see it. You're talking about limitations, but it's a proven fact that when people are really in a bad situation, under pressure and it's a matter of survival, their abilities suddenly reach the top, people simply realize that their fear is their worst enemy and should they survive, they must simply push their fear away and try to do what would a hero do. Well, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but in the end of the day, you can tell yourself that at least you tried and even if you must die, at least you die knowing that you did everything you could to avoid it, a heroic death.

Love this game too. I bought it early on, and it was good but not great. But the last big update made some really good improvements. Think the longest I've survived was only about 13 days, I need to get the hang of setting the traps to catch rabbits.
In fact the long dark screenshot is still the main one featured on my profile :-)

No the regular difficulty. Haven't played for several months now though.

Ok, I'd have to say the biggest detriment of my early games was carrying too much stuff. I was burning calories and getting fatigued like crazy. Now I carry less, which has it's own risks, but I survive longer. It also keeps you in good shape to fight a wolf if you need to.

Hmmm, good advice. I do often walk around while encumbered.
I'm looking forward to playing it during a cold winter break again. Somehow it's even more enjoyable to play when it's actually cold outside. I'll try and survive with my alcohol supplies.

I would be a horrible survivor, I'm sure.
I mean, yeah, I can handle basic stuff, and apparently I'm "resourceful" when it comes to being in a bad situation... But surviving in the wild? Hey, hey. My survival skills are limited.

At least you won't need a can opener to eat brains =)

TLD is one of my all-time favorite games. I only put in about 40 hours so far, though, as I don't want to burn out on it before more content is added. Just reading this is making me want to do another couple of runs (maybe tonight).
The worst -- finding ammo everywhere, but RNGeesus decides you don't deserve a hunting rifle ... at all ... anywhere on your map. -_-
This is one game I recommend to all my friends, but sadly none of them ever purchase it. Definitely a hidden gem of a game. XD

To avoid burning out the content I only play the Mystery Lake map. I am still finding little places that I have visited in the lake area. I've only survived Fluffy in the Dam once. Almost got killed 3 times when I played last night. I take too many chances fighting wolves. Last night I was losing all of them. It keeps things interesting and fresh. =D

Me in DayZ
Mind: "look there ! a guy, stay hidden, try to understand if he's a threat, keep a low profil.."
Body: full panic mode: activated - accidentally fire the only bullet I had
I wouldn't go that far :O

This game looks great...been wanting to try it for awhile. I might have to check out your broadcast later!

everyone is talking so good about this game that makes me want as much as flame over. I like games that shows a whole new level of complexity that doesn't require complex decisions. That's exactly what I love in "How to Survive". It is simple and at the same time, some factors should be considered, making a little more complex decisions but not at point to ruin the fun.
well... I hope I like this game as much as you, because, now, I'm on high expectations. :D

The 1972 Andes flight disaster shows us the lengths people will go to survive but it was two brave souls who dared to risk their lives in search of help. If they had decided to wait until they were rescue they would have all died.

I love survival games ... I wouldn't survive for long out in the wild + cold though due to my low coldness tolerance level and not having enough cushion in my body to last..
hmm i guess i'd have to be picky about my saves and venture outside only when it's safe to avoid dying ... perhaps in the daylight is best
Collect berries and other vegetation to eat... i wouldn't kill animals to save my own life ...
anyways, i am sooo looking forward to this game :) if it goes on sale during winter sales, i'll get it for sure.!

That's good survival thinking there. I think you'd do fine no matter how much mass you body has. Foraging for food and avoiding wild animals is a solid strategy. You might out live us all!

I've been playing The Long Dark for a couple of weeks. All other games are currently on the back burner. I'm not even interested in playing Fallout 4 right now. This game is so immersive. At times, I have to just stop playing because it can be exhausting to be constantly focused on surviving for hours on end. Do I have enough food? Is my water supply sufficient? Will the weather turn foul while out exploring? Are there wolves in my path? Can I avoid them or must I fight?
The game only saves when you sleep, enter a shelter/building or become injured. Death is permanent with all saves erasing when you do. Save scumming is downright impossible so every time I venture outdoors I am looking out for possible dangers. It's been a learning experience as I have avoided reading guides or looking at videos. The first time I died venturing out in the wilderness at night. I quickly lost my sense of direction. It is much colder at night than during the day so I froze to death. All my other deaths have been due to wolves. Generally wolves are just a nuisance. They telegraph their intention to attack from a long ways off and are easily scared off by fire. It is when you are weak from hunger, thirst, fatigue or the cold that wolves can make an easy meal of you. Even when you are in good shape if your fight with a wolf leads to being wounded gravely you better have first aid gear available. If not you will likely bleed out.
This game gets you thinking about what you would do if in the same situation. Would you end your life early to avoid the slow death of starvation or would you fight will all your might to survive no matter how much pain and suffering you endured? You can't really hold it against the person in this situation who takes their own life. Starving or dying of thirst are horrible ways to die. Freezing to death is perhaps a bit less horrible but you do suffer quite a bit until hypothermia kicks in. No need to mention the horror of becoming the next meal of a predator.
So, you are stranded in the wilderness. You have few supplies and must scavenge for anything which improves your lot.
What would you be willing to do to survive?
Not to advertise or anything but I broadcast the game when I am playing. I play just about every night, pretty late at night mostly so if you see me playing you are welcome to check out the broadcast on Steam. Last night I found a cave, camped for the night then tonight I left in search of a more secure shelter. I found a radio tower hut where I was able to warm up and spend another night safely. In the morning, I headed towards what looked like a farm from my vantage point. I saw a bear so I waited for him to pass below me and took a shot at him with my newly found rifle. This pissed off the bear very much, he dashed up to the lookout so quickly I did not get off a second shot, then I was mauled to death.
