What's up with all the Nuclear Dawn giveaways?

I get Payday because of IGN Prime, but why are there so many Nuclear Dawn giveaways lately? I didn't see a major sale and it's not a notable game by most definitions. Just curious.

It's advertisement. People will think 'these devs are quite cool, they give away free stuff' I'll buy more of their stuff.
Exactly the reason why there was a 25k key giveaway for Faerie Solitaire AFAIK - advertisement for FS2

Nuclear Dawn is in desperate need of players. The multiplayer is practically dead. Otherwise the devs wouldn't bother giving out free copies. Same for The Ship.
