Sometimes we all need a little guiding light during these times of sale. In this thread, let's post what games we're thinking about buying, and reply to others to give them an honest opinion of whether or not they should buy it.

I'll start:

Well guys, what do you think?

I've heard that Spec Ops has the best story in FPS titles (if you are interested in the game storywise).

It won as "Best Story in a game" on IGN Editor's Choice Awards 2012.

It isnt a FPS but it has some good storytelling for a shooter yeahXD

darkness 2 is a quick play, but fun none the less. DA:O in my opinion is the better of the 2 games but that varies widely depending on who you are talking to

Spec ops yes, DNF and shit no, CoP yes, only if you beat SoC first, and no too DA:O. Pirate that shit.

DAO:Great fun, even though a playtrough is a bit long if you do very much;this leads to the conclusion that it takes very long to see all endings.

Spec Ops: Got it for $6.00 on GMG a while back, then bought another $5.00 copy on Amazon that I gave away here. Also, beat it on the hardest difficulty and got all achievements. It's pretty good for what it sets out to do; as a shooter, it's a little awkward to control sometimes. It's worth $10, especially with Bioshock 1/2, but I would expect a good price for it to be about $7.50.

Darkness II: won it on here, loved it (I like Spawn a lot, so the similar aesthetic and attitude appeal to me). Still haven't gone back to do a "New Game Plus", but definitely finished it once. Again, $10 isn't bad with the added stuff, but I'd expect $7.50. (Also, I own DNF... preorder... justified by supporting BL2 development. :P ...and... it's... generic.)

STALKER: I'm there too... haven't beaten the first one... I can't justify even $3.75 for CoP until I do. (Don't get me wrong, STALKER's great... I just don't get the urge to play it often enough to pay more into it, with my budget.)

DAO Ultimate: I'm extremely tempted on that one myself. I can do about half the cost with TF2 items I sold in the community market. Seems like a good deal to me, considering that it's EA, and most sales on it anywhere else will be Origin-only. But it's not an immediate-ohshityes-buy, especially when I've already earmarked a little cash for Scribblenauts tomorrow.

Scribblenauts looks awesome! I bought a copy already (didn't know about the Amazon sale so I got it on Steam for $20) but it's still in my gift inventory.

And yeah, I agree about Stalker. I haven't even launched it yet, because I have a billion other gritty shooters to go through (Alan Wake, Metro 2033, Homefront, Max Payne 3, etc.)

Playing through Alan Wake right now; episodes are a little lengthy, but it's usually a good feeling to power through to the end of each one before quitting (also I'm trying it with just a gamepad with Big Picture mode, and I think it'd be a little faster/easier with mouse and keys). Metro's nice, but I never got far into it; similar feel to Stalker. Don't have the other two. :)

(Also, I'm happy to read in another thread about your distaste for slapping MP into games which don't need it -- now I don't have to warn you away from Spec Ops's MP, which the devs never intended for it to have.)

Spec Ops is BOUGHT! Thanks for your input guys, seems like it's a great game that just slipped past my radar.

Look forward to some "thank you" Bioshock giveaways. :)

Speaking of which, in case anyone else is thinking of buying stuff on Amazon, they have three promos going at the moment:

  • $5 credit on Editor's Choice games in January
  • Adventure Quest Worlds Amazon Warrior Armor
  • Airmech Holiday Gift Pack

I found out for 3.75 you have to own the first one on the STALKER game. Other wise is 9.99 but you can get both copies for 8 dollars is what i did. If were talking about steam that is.

DNF got terrible reviews. Rest of the games id recommend.

I would go for the DA:O deal.
Can't justify to buy it for 7.50€ since i don't want to support that pricing bs, but i definitely would buy it for 7.50$ :D

Well, I think the Duke Nukem/Darkness pack is out of the running.

The next sale is about half an hour away... I think I'll wait for that before deciding anything on the others. There's still TWO WEEKS of sales left after all.

Well, the new daily deal just hit... I don't see anything I like there. I would be interested in SFIV if it were cheaper, but I played the 360 version and it was really kind of crap.

I would like to say though that anyone who hasn't played Portal or Portal 2 should pick them up NOW. It's essentially $6.50 for two games that are worth $206.50.

STALKER: Call of Pripyat -- $3.75
I haven't yet beaten the first one, but I assume that if I enjoy it I'll end up wanting CoP, and $4 doesn't seem like a bad deal at all.

$4 isn't a bad deal at all. CoP isn't as good as SoC, but it's better than CS! I'm in love with each game, so maybe I'm biased. Any problems you have with CoP you can fix since there's probably a patch for it.

GET Dragon Age: Origins. It's one of my all time favorite games and I've had a blast with it. In my opinion, one of Bioware's last great games.

I picked this one up too, thanks to all the recommendations here. I played a little bit of it before and it was fun, though I'm hoping it's not just hype.

BTW: Hope everyone is voting for Bastion as Community choice! I've missed this game way too many times!

It might start a little slow, but the story is really engaging. Another plus is that the first hour or so of gameplay varies depending on what race/class you choose. Have fun with it! :-)

Get the Spec Ops/Bioshock bundle if you're feeling generous. I always say Bioshock is a game that more people need to experience.

If you're not feeling generous, first of all "aww", second of all I wouldn't get it.

Don't buy this Stalker. I was really disappointed, i tried all 3, only felt in love for SoC.

I love the first one too, but I think Call of Pripyat gave the best overall stalker experience.

New set of Flash deals! Here are the ones I'm interested in:

  • Mount and Blade Collection -- $8.75
    • I honestly have no idea what Mount and Blade is about, except that it looks like Elder Scrolls meets Total War.
  • Binary Domain -- $6.25
    • Again, no idea what it's about, except that it looks like Gears of War meets Total Recall.

Are either of these worth caring about?

Binary Domain felt no more than average to me, you could download the 1.2 GB demo and try it yourself.

Woohoo, Bastion made it to community choice. Finally get to pick this one up for just $4.

Now let's vote for Beyond Good & Evil! I never got the chance to play that one either, and if it wins it'll go down to just $2.50!
