20:15 - (Impersonator): Why do you think you have the right to take peoples possesions?

20:15 - (Impersonator): you say that i take their possessions

20:16 - (Impersonator): and that i think that i have the right to do that

20:16 - A. Blade: Because I give something in return that they want.

20:16 - (Impersonator): no i dont and no i dont

20:16 - (Impersonator): yeah but that is the risk

20:16 - (Impersonator): its your choice to verify me

20:16 - (Impersonator): and if you dont, its your fault

20:16 - (Impersonator): not mine

20:16 - A. Blade: For the trade?

20:16 - (Impersonator): what do you mean?

20:16 - A. Blade: verify you for what?

20:17 - (Impersonator): verify if im real

20:17 - A. Blade: If I don't verify you, it's my fault?

20:17 - (Impersonator): yes

20:17 - A. Blade: Uncanny.

But he is kind of right. I'm not saying it's the right thing do to to try talking people out of their possessions, but he's right about the fact that people have the responsibility to verify everything if they decide to trade or stuff like that.
But just because you can do something, you shouldn't always do it. I never scammed and luckily never fell for a scammer

I would say in a real backward way he has a point, but he is far from being 'kind of right'.

He is right that's up to use to check him, but he is wrong that if people don't, he can trade without living up to his part of the deal.

Even if he has +1000 rep and he decides not to give what was pacted at the end, it doesnt matter if people check the other guy or not. He is not right at all, just trash.

Indeed everyone is responsible for their own actions. But he believes the mistake of another can and may be abused at will, since the other person started with the mistake, and is thus responsible for the consequenses. It is a matter of basic human morality.

I wonder if they have a this skewed sense of morality, or if they're just a sociopath...

The difference is that this guy is actively looking for these 'situations'.

If you'd try to defend him (not saying you do, just generally speaking) you could just as well defend any other type of criminal activity ('if someone steals your wallet it's you fault, because you could have kept it in a more secure place'). This guy is neither the best nor the worst scammer, it's just an antisocial scumbag not even worth talking about.

Our mistakes don't justify his actions, but in his mind it does. I agree on your point of view, he is indeed not the good type of person. He doesn't have the right to act in such a way, and never wil.

I guess so too. In the end it's just a nasty little crime, that has two sides to it. But thanks you sparkled this discussion, it is a great one! I came out a little smarter.

So, you're saying if you'd leave door opened you wouldn't call the police after someone comes in and take all your stuff.

Crime of opportunity is no crime, right?

You defend them by saying "it's victims fault they didn't check their trade partner".
What's different in "it's victims fault they didn't closed the door"?

Also, they weren't persuaded into GIVING something. They were persuaded into TRADING something. And then, when they done their part, their trade partner breaks agreement.
Are you going to shops, agree on paying for something and when shopkeeper gives you said item you run away?

There was no persuasion into giving anything. This wasn't like begging for something.

This is more akin to something like a dine-and-dash. Get your goods and then bolt before returning your end of the trade agreement.

It's pretty safe to trade, as long as you stick to in-steam trades. By this I mean no real money or codes, only swapping via the Steam system for trading, making use of Steam game gifts.
