Not sure if this is allowed and if it's not I'll delete. But has anybody gotten Sleeping Dogs DE working in steam? I was ecstatic when it was revealed during HB Jan Monthly but it crashes when loading. I've googled, contacted, uninstalled, reinstalled, updated, still nothing. Does anybody have a proven fix. Hell, I'll give the person with a proven fix the rest of the reveals(QB, the long dark, warhammer, and of course sleeping dogs have already been added to my list). Thanks in advance.

Open Control Panel -> System and Security -> Administrative Tools -> Services.
There, look for the service called "Touch Keyboard and Handwriting Panel Service". Right click on it and select "stop" to stop the service. You may also stop the service from automatically starting there.
You need to disable the service before starting the game.

Try this it worked for me in win 10

Have you tried to add it to the list of DEP exceptions? I seem to remember having to do that with the old standard game.

Control Panel\System and Security\System

then "advanced system settings"

then click "settings" under performance

click the "data execustion prevention" tab and add the games exe. even if it doesnt help here, its often worth trying with problematic games. hope that helps (anybody out there).

If you run the "dxdiag" command on your pc and it will pull up lots of including your graphics card. While there are different issues it could be, knowing if your graphics card is supported by the game or not would help. I saw you can run Dishonored so it might not be that but it definitely would be useful to know what it is so others can help you.

Maybe you could try deleting the appcache folder. Also make sure you don't have MSI Afterbuner running in the background, and disconnect any controllers/adapters you may have in your pc.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\appcache

There are a few solutions for the different causes of crashes
The first one is for the original game. It's probably not a problem that persists in the DE version
https://steamcommunity.com/app/202170/discussions/0/846959520864508574/
http://steamcommunity.com/app/307690/discussions/1/624076027745154516/

For some the solution for crashes were to turn off fullscreen.
Try to disable the "Tablet PC Input Service" service, it's causing problem with the game.
There is a DXSETUP.EXE in sleeping dogs folder. Try to run it. For a few people it solved the crashes.

You could also try going to the game's folder and installing directx directly from there.

If you have not installed Windows in drive C: (but D: or E: for example) it can give problems with SD.

But an easier step woul be deleting the content of "Redist" folder (not the folder) and "HKShip.exe" in the main folder - Start Steam and verify integrity - then try to install (or repair) the new files in the Redist folder and set "HKShip.exe" compatibility to Win95 or 98 in Windows properites.

Is your windows version up to date? I upgraded to windows 10 late last year as I could not play any remakes of games that required something present in Windows 10 that 7 lacks (not just direct x related), I could not update my version of Win7 so I skipped a step and upgraded, first check if you have the latest version of win7 installed and try again?

Okay... It's one of the fixes for the crashes for this game. I am also on Windows 7 and I can play this game just fine. But do check and make sure about the Service Pack.

I know I have SP1 installed. My version of WIn 7 came with it. Ive built my PC myself so im not illiterate and usually I have no issue with games working. I never try to play a game I know my system cant support. My system should support this game just fine.

Well my solution would be to try and download the savegame after the 1st mission (because maybe the problem is only when starting a new game) and you wouldnt really miss much

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah. Ive played it before so I wouldve skipped all the cutscenes anyway and I remember the basics. I ll try this after ive tried the solution im working on now.

Go to the game's forums on steam for help/solutions, this section is about issues with this website.
That's the most likely place to have a solution

I've done that repeatedly. This was a last resort.

As a last resort, I would suggest you download a cracked .exe for the game and try executing it from there (switch your .exe for the cracked one, obviously). Sometimes, unfortunately, the cracked version of games work better than the original.

Can you watch any cutscenes before the game crashes? Maybe try deleting them, just to see what happens.

No cutscenes. I press start. It loads for about. 10 seconds then back to desktop no error messages.

There's a download link in the description. I've downloaded it myself and it's clean. It contains the main folder of the game (with .exe and such). You're supposed to overwrite your folder with that one.
