If there's at least 4.1 for your phone, go for it... they made some improvements to make it consume less power

Android 4.2 15,62%
Android 2.3.3 - 2.3.7 13,03%
Android 4.3 3,93%
Android 4.4 3,59%
Android 2.2 2,09%
Android 3.2 1,67%
Android 2.1 0,50%
So you can rather safely just make 4.x your requirement. In my home, we use, what, six I guess Android devices daily and all of them are 4.x.
