I rarely pre-order stuff, but I need a new controller, I want Rocket league, so... D:
I've seen some reviews\pics\random opinions and it looks nice.

I know that feeling, last time I had that feeling I preordered GTA5 D: (well, I actually enjoyed it)
The only thing that stops me is missing info regarding warranty and shipment

Well... do you thing I'm wasting 54€ :\ ?

Also, I don't like the idea of removing the joysticks/thumbsticks.

I don't know, my current joypad's thumbsticks are worn, sometimes they glitch, maybe that touch thing is better

That's probably reasonable.

That's the reason why I'm interested in it. Sticks are really slow and imprecise but maybe replacing them with touch controls would bring it closer to mouse while still having the the usual advantages of a controller being suited for some games. It remains to be seen how well they pull it off.

Well, I'm afraid that it will fade away really soon, like those one to two month games (Rust and so on). Well, if it is great then I might buy one but right now, nope. Well, if You'll buy it then I hope You'll enjoy it :)

I'm not confident enough in it yet to put 70 euros down for something that may lose to a normal Xbox 360 controller in everything.

^ Mostly that. The old machine works pretty nice, and it is a lot cheaper, why should I move to the new machine I don't know and is more expensive?

I hate how easily Xbox controllers break. If I had to do it over I would've bought an official Xbox controller rather than a less-expensive clone. Not that I think the "real one" would've been less likely to break, but because there's parts available to repair them.

According to devs who got the prototype those touch things are really precise.

but that's the whole point of the controller. If it kept the thumbsticks it would just be a 360 controller

Yep, and a 360 works fine. I just find the usage of touchpads weird :/

360 works fine for games optimized for it. Steam controller is supposed to make it possible to use a controller for games that are more mouse-reliant.

You could check this one if you want waste money in a good way. :c

it was like 68€ or something for me, and i sold rocket league for 12€, portal 2 will also bring 3-4€. so to me that sounds fair. i should have the controller in 3-4 weeks. really excited how well the touchpads work. i don't necessarily see it as a replacement for the xbox one controller, but an addition, maybe just for certain games.

Hard to say, I ordered one but I don't remember why... :)

Oh, I remember, my 360 controller seems a bit flaky, thought it might be time to get a replacement... :) But of course it's not the same thing at all, so as a replacement I might end up frustrated with it. :) Hope it can handle Dark Souls... :)

bump... :)

Its actually pretty controller like if you use keyboard only. Numpad for camera and right triggers, wsad for movement and left triggers.

Ouch! :)

I tried using the keyboard+mouse controls for Dark Souls for an hour or two... It was so painful. :( If I'd played the whole game that way, I probably never would have finished it. :( Not sure how you could manage, I was fighting the game as much as the enemies on the screen... :)

I'm bad with joypads :c
I can play only a few games with them, I'll buy the joypad mainly for local coop (for others, I'll keep keyboard and mouse) and fighting games

I vaguely recall it being previewed by a gaming journalist (oxymoron) waaaaay back when the design still included the little LCD screen or whatever. Anyway, the touchpads were supposed to be quite good, but somewhat awkward to get used to. One small detail was how the user kept pushing their thumb or whatever past the edges of the touch area because they were used to being able to give max feedback with the analog stick. But he also said it was immensely responsive or something, and overall he thought the gamepad would be awesome. You just have to learn to use it, learn to make it more intuitive. As someone who didn't grow up during the dual analog console era, I have little ability to move with one analog stick while aiming with another. I think you go through the same growing pains with the Steam gamepad.

Also, I know Valve has annoyingly chosen to call their gamepad "Steam Controller" but I'm going to get away with calling it a gamepad instead as much as possible.

For those who aren't aware, pretty much everything that allows you to send input is a "controller"--joysticks, light guns, keyboards and mice, driving wheels, flight sticks, and so on, and so on. To be fair, I recognize lots of people refer to all gamepads as controllers, but controller:gamepad::automobile:motorcycle.

This might seem obvious, but have you tried playing with the right stick inverted? I'm in my 30s, so I grew up in the NES era, and I had trouble trying to play Halo when it first came out. Inverting the right stick solved my problem instantly. Some of us are just wired for inverted look for some reason.

I pre-ordered one, but I did it solely on trading card profits (thanks Idle Master!), so I didn't feel like I was actually spending real money on it. Looks decent enough, and I've been looking for a good way to play point-and-click games / isometric RPGs on my TV from my recliner.

had to work a lot today, so all i could do is play 2 minutes half life 2. first impressions: not so good. but that was with a default profile. if i have time later at home, i will look for games that have specific profiles and run really good with it according to other users. but was worked pretty well was controlling windows with it. better than with a notebook touchpad. ^^
