Either:
Hexagon - finish Super Hexagon
The End - finish Super Meat Boy (NOT the Dark World)
I hate both of them. Currently playing The Binding of Isaac, which is just as frustrating. :(

The Golden Gift was a pain for me as well. First time I got to the last level my computer started lagging so hard it was impossible to even try to beat the level. I had to decrease quality and resolution with command line options to get that level run smoothly. When I got the achievement I beat the last level first. The remaining ones weren't that hard at that point because I had had so much practice on my previous attempt.

unlockables were way better, they added something to the game. Now developers put into the game achievements and are too lazy to work on unlockables.

Achievements and unlockables are not mutually exclusive.

The only viable ways to do those if you ask me are idle for the year and write a script that runs universe_sandbox.exe (or w/e the .exe is called) and then kills it and set that to repeat 10^4 times.

DEHR really should after-mission stats or something, so you'd know if someone didn't decided to suicide or something.
Like in Dishonored - I restarted one level 3 times because every time someone decided to die...
Ps.: Nice reply from you, 2 months later. Damn, I'll have to read those dates closely... :)

"There Can Be Only One
Achieve the ultimate accolade and obtain rank 1 on the multiplayer Shogun Ladder."
No, you don't lose it. But this achievement is harder to get according to statistics:
"Wrecking Ball
Win the Battle of Aizu after provoking all four hidden armies at once. [Fall of the Samurai only]"

I don't have it, but I think probably about the most difficult achievement I know of would be Dungeon of Dredmor's 'Sewer Brew' achievement, though it may vary somewhat in difficulty depending on things like where you live. To get it, you have to drink with someone who works for Gaslamp Games. In real life. Personally, traveling to Canada and hanging around their offices hoping to catch a beer with one of them after work or something just isn't practicable for me, and I imagine most people are similarly hindered.

Each round, you have a one in a million chance of getting this achievement. Good luck..."

There is an easy way to do it though.
Repetidely make the cube jump and stop it with water until a glass panel breaks, and the cube stays on the paltform. It will be sitting on the platfrom, ready for the taking.
I was somewhat forced to fo that, as I had a micro freeze as all panels broke makign it impossible. I agree that it should be very hard the original way.

I did it through the original way

So hard that I got it in my first try without even trying.

What was the hardest achievement for you to get on Steam?
What game was it and what did you have to do to get the achievement?
