They already started deconstruction with CnC 4 anyway.

there is still some competitiveness in the older cnc games. but to make a F2P C&C is crossing the line. the only C&C game i play anymore is generals/zerohour

Nice.
So they saw that C&C 4 was a great success and was what all the fans really wanted.

Pay 2 win, I'm guessing. Since its EA we're talking about here.

Worth noting that if you want free, non-pay to win C&C action, EA made several of the early games in the series freeware a couple years ago. I just checked and it doesn't look like their page that had all the installation instructions is up anymore, but plenty of fan sites (like this one) have preserved the links and instructions.

And another great franchise bites the dust, courtesy of EA.
Welp.

Probably biowares way of saying sorry for the old republic. Its weird that ea would give something for free. there is definitely something they are no telling us.

What. The. Shit.
First, the worry that Criterion is making the MW (Most Wanted) remake into Burnout Paradise 2 is turning me off and now this. Dont get me wrong, I love Burnout, but when you say youre making a NFS remake, and no less MW, my favorite of the series, it carries with it some expectations. So far Criterion is ignoring most of what MW had and is focusing more on Paradise.
And now this... Seriously. What the fuck. I was looking forward to Generals 2. And now this? What. The. FUCK.

Really EA?
It wasn't enough for you to kill Westwood, Bullfrog, Pandemic, Origin (the old company not the spyware), Maxis, old Dice and old Bioware?
It wasn't enough for you to zombify Free Radical into Crytek UK and with your "oh so great judgement" decided to take Crytek UK from working on Time Splitters 4 (which devs said was getting a PC release) putting it on hold till further notice, just so you can lease them to THQ so they can help develop "HOMEFRONT 2: Cloning CoD 2nd Failed Attempt".
Now you are parading a corpse of one of my most beloved series around just to mock me? Right after you kill Kane off from the C&C and refuse to bring back Yuri for RA3.
Oh did I forget you cancelled Tiberium, the FPS which would allow you to swap between first person and top down RTS view (the idea was that you got shuttled/teleported to space/the Philadelphia to command then returned to the battlefield to play it Renegade style) but you released the statement "EA has suspended work on Tiberium effective immediately. The game was not on track to meet the high quality standards set by the team and by the EA Games Label. A lower quality game is not in the best interest of the consumers and would not succeed in this market."
Only to excrete Tiberian Twilight not long after that and then pump out a shitty P2W browser game baring the C&C name.
And their CEO, John Ravioli wonders why their games fail and their stock plummets.
If you want to see what could have been with Tiberium, there are multiple videos out there.

westwood was the best (because red alert 2 is the best)

Goodbye my dear friend, goodbye.
You were gone for while, but just now I noticed you will never come back.

I'm puzzled by my fellow commenters. Why the complaints? EA has been rather gracious as far as the Command and Conquer franchise goes. For heaven's sake, they've officially made like 6 or so games in the series as Freeware. If it's the nostalgic kick from playing those games that is motivating you to complain, then by all means, play those games instead.
P.S. No need to complain about Tiberium. There has been a highly supported total conversion mod that gives that First-Person/RTS feel you wanted on moddb.com

So... making nearly twenty year old games freeware is meant to magically make up for totally fucking up the latest entries in what used to be a fairly genre defining series? I don't buy it. The quality of the old games is why we're complaining about the new ones. Because they just don't match up. Not even remotely.

Right, but that is my point, silly. Stop expecting the new games to be "SO MUCH BETTER". It's your own nostalgia kick for the series' past entries. Just enjoy what you did have because you won't experience it from further entries.

I don't want them to be uber-l337-haXX0r games. I want them to be averagely competent. I didn't realise that was too much to fucking ask.

This has ruined my day. More details: http://www.gamespot.com/events/gamescom-2012/story.html?sid=6391569
When it goes live, everyone will be there downloading and playing. This is sad too. Players love complaining and doing nothing.

I really loved Generals + Zero Hour, now I can't be excited anymore by Generals 2. Now I'll have to stop hopping for any new CnC and keep CnC 3 and Generals as the latest good ones.
