The movie came out in 1971, there's a statue of limitations on these things. I think 41 years is probably old enough to qualify.

you know, spoilers, about what you get when you get the full badge?

Actually the community badge gave you an invite for the first 50k to complete it.. which went open to everybody like in a week.

Did you expect something other than a fully completed badge?

They'll never bring coal back thanks to the massive abuse last year. In game achievements thing though would be nice again.

So called 'coal farmers' made literally 100s of accounts for the free coal every other day and bought the HiB (4?) at the time for $0.01 as that was allowed then. They then used this to get loads of coal and traded it all in for games and Valve / Developers / Publishers lost millions to these coal farmers.
So many games were given out then in exchange for the coal that the player2player market for game trading has probably not got over the shock from last Christmas...

I wouldnt say they lost millions seeing as there was a predetermined amount of games set aside specifically to be giving away for free to begin with.
It was however a massive failure on their part to secure the event against such massive abuses and blatant ToS violations.

I didn't know there was a pre-defined limit, it will still have cost them though. In big business any slip up costs (if, as you say they had limits on the free games then it is loss of credibility etc.)

I doubt Valve are that naive, badges are easy to get. More likely they will limit it (if they ever do it again) to people who have over a certain value on their account and have played a set amount of time in none f2p games.

i would assume at least more than 1 different badge depending on how many tasks, not just one for completing four and then you are done

i think if they gave some coupons to people who completed the badge it would be better than nothing.

How stupid. I don't have a cell phone. Glad this badge is worth nothing.

How do you all forget the millions stolen last year? How do you guys not get due to the abuse of a good thing we all miss out. Thanks to the piece of shit cola farmers who abused charities and abused Steam taking millions worth of free games They are not gonna do it again.
Steam's not opening it's legs to get taken advantage of again. . . I'm gonna rage about it all steam sale. . . that's what you guys sound like ( who are still crying about, well, everything) you guys know the difference between privilege and right no?
Comment has been collapsed.
lol who the fuck are you even trying to argue with
Comment has been collapsed.
Hmm, no, they didnt? They had limited gifts from third parties, and when those run out, they gave valve titles. They didnt have any kind of loss that would put them out of business. Not by a long shot.

More so Companies suing them for losses of revenue, Pulling out of Steam and moving on to other means of distribution, Or other means. There's also the indie guys who had a loss too. It's a long shot but there was a whole lot of Christmas spirit in the underground that didn't make it public around the whole scandal. Obviously Valve didn't have anything to do with the Humble bundle but lost of developers came out to give aid to keep people from getting more screwed over by the schemers. Yes it is true that Valve had their asses covered but it's how you play with the big guys and how you handle their product that makes or breaks a company.
Gabe knows that no matter how big you become any type of vibration can make a big gun fall, which is why Steam has safeguards if Valve goes under. Make no mistake just because the videogame industry is strong right now doesn't mean a little friction, like the X-mas scandal, or even the more recent Russian Mob using Steam to launder money doesn't make the fine platform that we walk on that much more weaker.
With all that said If it weren't for the many people behind the scenes who gave up allot of their time to help handle the coal farming issue the outcome would have been very different. I know That I cannot speak for any of those people but there was allot of work put in, alot of finances to make it any less of an issue then it was. So anyone who makes too light of it may a plague be on their house. I mean the last thing most people want to do is be in the office for 16 hours during what should be their holiday season but, because some spoiled little shits decided to abuse a good thing, many people, who should have been relaxing after a long hard year, had to put in long shifts. These people know who they are, some of them frequent here( Some of them don't because they got sick and tired of the shit some of the users pull here) and my heart goes out to them.
Long story short: There's a really really good reason that Many of us are pissed that all we see is bitching that users aren't getting free shit and coupons this year. That's not to say anyone here caused it just to understand.
Edit: though you are right
Edit: It should also be noted I'm talking more about the damage control people. (PR and Programers, Mods)

(Though Steam may be way different, I've never been in or signed a contract, nor seen) lol, no. There's a set promotion. Depending on what the publisher sets with the distributor. But that's not the core the issue wasn't just with valve the issues was people were buying hundreds of humble bundles at a penny then making a steam account. To the average gamer it's not a big thing but when you have a massive network around steam and stuff there's lots to deal with. When you factor in this happened around Christmas there was a massive "shit hitting the fan". I mean with the humble bundle there are lots of people who can lose their whole worth when one fails. . . just look at failed bundles and the dirty dealings with those. Then you look at what happens with Gamersgate when they have a price error. . . you think the user base was bad here? Before the employees had time to wake up from their coffee after going to sleep from what seemed like a profitable yesterday they read that they were losing thousands (lots for a start up company). The irony of it was that The humble bundle started to prove a point about gamers, sort of like a sociological experiment. . . based on the mindset of gamers (rather the good will nature that is). What was a winning bet the few moths prior turned into a scandal.

I agree. It's so hard to find a good deals on ps3 games and here I see people complaining about prices that are dirt cheap. Give me a break.
Comment has been collapsed.
Indeed. If you check SteamGameSales the higher discounted games are actually on Steam. The difference is that people probably don't like them or already have them, but that's not their fault.
I said it before and I'll say it again, Steam has spoiled people in the years past. Now that they just do the same as every other store people complain. First world problems alright.

Well, you do have an awsome tree badge, that's something :)

Ya it's not much but who cares. I was hoping it would at least get lights added to it but I still like having the badge on my profile. Plus the countless amounts of money I've saved.

I don't care about free shit, but that achievement hunting really was awesome :c

This. Some event like Potato Sack would be awesome.

Its called great deals. Worth a lot more then badge with no real use, actually no use at all that we know about.

Instead of bringing back the coal and free gifts think they should bring back the summer camp where you had a selection of gifts like a in game item or a small DLC or a really old game so people start playing it again or become more interested in that franchise. Also they could put a limit and stop giving out stuff for free when the donated copies finish and give out coupons for a discounted price of that prize.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yea but people would still abuse the free stuff. All the free games would go very quickly (especially if it was as easy to get them as last year). There would be (I bet) several people who use alt accounts to hoard the free games for trade purposes later / hoard them to stop others getting free stuff (because people can be arseholes like that)
/rant. None of the hate was aimed at anyone in particular.

Gotta track these things via third-party sites like Reddit (or even the SG forums.)
XCOM:EU dropped to $20 with promo code on GameFly and $17.50 with promo code on GreenManGaming. It's a Steamworks title so no matter where you buy it, it is Steam-redeemable.
Me, I got Sleeping Dogs for $8 and Dark Souls for $15, just by checking /r/GameDeals.

Maybe its Valves way of telling us we should finish our back logs? O_O!
