How many people here have played shared games from another account?

I haven't seen much discussion about this topic, and it's surprising since there's a little issue with Family Sharing + syncing your Steam account to SteamGifts.

The problem is, when you play a game from another account using Family Sharing, the website will assume you own the game and you won't be able to join any giveaways for it.

There are a few questions coming to my head, like, is this permanent? So I played a few games using a friend's account, SteamGifts will assume those games exist in my account?

I mean, the shared games I enjoy are all games I want to get for my own account.

So... for this reason, I wasn't really planning to sync my account... which can be a pain when I join new giveaway groups.

Edit: cg is working on a fix right now.

My friend is sharing his library with me and I've played one game so far. I think Family Sharing has been bug free so far, except for the fact that after the first time I registered my PC to the account, it kicked me off, even though it says my pc was registered. So I had to reregister.

I've spoken to a support member and if I recall correctly, he says they're looking into fixing it. It's complicated to fix, because it's not as simple as hitting a switch. Hopefully they'll be able to fix it, cause that'd be great.

I had that problem as well, and an issue with Spore.

For two reasons.
1) I'm using Windows 8, which isn't supported.
2) When I set the game to run on compatibility mode, Steam no longer recognized the game as "shared", and there no longer was an option to play it, only to buy it.

This was fixed only after uninstalling the game, that's when Steam recognized the game as "shared game" again, and it displayed an option to install it.

Well I'm running on Windows 7, so I guess it's not a problem specific to the OS. Perhaps it's something on Valve's side. Whatever it is, I'm sure they'll fix it all soon enough. As of right now though, I have no more problems with Family Sharing and everything is running smoothly.

The only problem I do have is that SG counts the games I play as a game I own. But that's just a problem that I'm sure CG or whoever will fix soon enough. Only time will tell.

I've just realised as well that the game I played from someone else's library counts as a game I own.

I tried it out using my main and alt account. I haven't synced my alt to SG, so I'm not sure. However, while the game doesn't show up in their library in their profile, it will show that they played it. As you can see here, Pac-Man appears as a game they played, but they dont actually own it.

So I think the answer is yes, Steam thinks you own the game

Noticed that too. That's why this looks like it could be easily fixed.

However dosnt it only belive the games you have on your last played list is in your account ? then just start 3 of your own games sync account and then no problem ? or ?

I would have to sync to test that out. :p
But I guess as long as the game is on the "Recent Played" list, SG will assume I own them.

Nah, I don't have the game in the Recently Played list and it still thinks I own the game.

A lot of trust is involved since you have to give someone access to your account so they can play your games, yes.

What I meant to say is that I agree with you. Trust isn't something easy to come by.

Even if you play a game that was one WE available to play (like only 3 days) you can't enter any giveaway for that game :(

This is the same issue as the free weekend games that show up on your synced games list. My assumption is that, if they work the same, it will take approximately two weeks after the last time you played it for it to disappear from your profile and thus the same time for you to be able to sync out of it. Haven't tested it so I cannot be certain about it, but it seems to be similar.

Edit : It seems that filtering family shared games from your synced games list might be fixable in the future. We'll need to check a few things first, so patience for a while.
