Idea is simple - even if both ppl benefot from ref program - imagine amount of spam on forums if those were allowed! You could not find normal threads, as all the ppl would just be spamming referrals.

The "friend" has to buy something.

Maybe. MAYBE a single thread for all ref links, but I still don't think that's a good idea since if people saw that thread, they might think it's okay to start other threads, which would increase spam. Our current zero tolerance policy is best if you ask me.

Well, it would be bad to post all that stuff here. (as all the others have said, spam and stuff)
But someone could make a steam group for all those referrals.

AFAIK, only new users can get that $2, and only buying stuff. I'm guessing most of us already bought something from them, and GMG doesn't really like you making multiple accounts (there were reports of people losing their accounts because of this).

And even overcoming that, this would turn SG into one big spam fest...

You only get the $2 once and that's when someone signs up from your ref link. The amount of games you buy is irrelevant unless you're abusing the system with multiple accounts and if that's the case, you can just refer yourself. The only person who would benefit is whoever makes the thread or who has their ref link listed first.

No, because then everyone, their mother, and their dog would be posting their damn referral links and flooding the forums.
