Hello,

After some purchases I decided not to buy anything anymore during teh Summer Sale, however a couple of minutes ago I sold an item on the Steam market for €8. Now I could buy another game from my wishlist in order to empty my wallet.

But I can't make a decision between the following games:

  • The Darkness 2 - €7.49

  • Alice: Madness Returns - €4.99

  • Enslaved: Odyssey to the West - €4.99

I know that they are three completely different games, but what would you choose and why?

Thanks for the help and help yourselves with these keys (please comment if you have activated it).

One person with a solid argumentation gets another key :)

Sadly, I haven't played any of them so I can't really recommend you a game. Personally I would watch some gameplay videos from random places of the game and decide that way. I own Alice on Steam but I haven't got time to play it. It seems pretty "sick" and a bit creepy ;)

P.S. Were all those keys for South Park?? Õ_Õ

Hmmm.... I sometimes decide when I see the nature of the game. I don't really like deserts, dark forests and some nasty-holes. I personally like fantasy places and tropical forests. I watched a bit of gameplay of them and found out that Enslaved has some pretty nice nature. I, myself would give it a try but the decision is yours to make. I hope I helped you a bit :)

P.S. Sounds in Enslaved are really nice.

Indeed, Enslaved has nice environments and seems to also have a solid level design. However, same goes for Alice.

Get Enslaved and Alice. They're 2 TF2 keys each (~6.8€ both) :)

No, those were not (all) South Park keys. ;) 1 DLC though.

Yea, saw that. Anyway, as someone else suggested here, go look upprices of those games on steamtrades.com and buy them for keys. I would buy Enslaved and Alice, if I would be you. Alice for weird fantasy story and Enslaved, because Enslaved seems really awesome too :D

Dunno where you got South Park from, unless he editted those out...But the keys I see up now were for:

Gravity Badgers
Dino D-Day
Section 8
Dark Shadows - Army of Evil
Gravity Badgers
Pressure

When you try to activate them (taken or not) it'll tell you what games they are.

Nope, there always has been 1 SP DLC, the 2nd one from the list I believe. Anyways, doesn't matter. Still free.

Well, I saw that it was South Park. Maybe it was a bug on Steam, since I see bugs like this one pretty often :P

South Park keys. It's pretty safe to assume they were already used when he posted them. Why he did that is beyond my comprehension but maybe that was a mistake, dunno.

One of the 3 keys was a South Park DLC, the other two were keys of other (un-activated) keys. ;) Thanks for your trust..

Jesus, is it so hard to help a person? I know it is best to watch a gameplay vid, but maybe he wanted to know what people think about those games here?

Is it so hard to accept my topic with free giveaways, while I also ask for some of your insights? :-) Of course I could watch some reviews/gameplays, but opinions from other people are also nice to hear. ^^

I'm probably gonna offend quite a few Christians here, but does Jesus really exist? Just found it interesting that you would invoke his name

He does, deep, deep in your mind... Nah, idk if he does exist and I don't want to know it :P

I'm not a big fan of shady deals with TF2 keys, nor do I have the experience with them. But thanks for your feedback. I do use KB/M, and don't have a controller. Maybe it's not a good idea to get Enslaved without a controller. The leaves me w/ 2 options. :)
Please see above for more keys.

It's nothing to fear when you trade in a trade window. You could get them both for 4 keys (Alice and Enslaved for ~6.8€)

Dang. Tough choice indeed. One thing for sure though is that you can frequently get Darkness II for a cheaper price. Enslaved hasn't been on sale many times so far. Alice is almost always on sale.

Alice Madness Returns is in my all-time top ten games! So it'd be a no-brainer for me :)

I've only played Alice out of the three listed, but oh boy is it one heck of a ride. One thing that is nice is having played the original American McGee's Alice first. Unfortunately that game is not on Steam as it's only included with the Deluxe version of Alice in Origin. That being said, it's not mandatory to play first as the new Alice game provides a significant amount of backstory.

A couple things to ask yourself:

  • Are you easily disturbed by images or violence? (I suspect not with The Darkness II and Alice as options)
  • Do you enjoy unique interpretations of classic stories? In this case, deranged as it may be, it is still an incredible story that really held my interest the entire duration of the game.

I could write a novel on this, but I'll spare you. Overall, I can't recommend Alice enough if you like the style of play. The environments are beautiful, the sounds are good, the voice acting is great, and the controls are responsive, easy to learn, and leave nothing to be desired. It's dark, creepy, psychotic and had me frequently muttering "whaaaaaat......?", but is a 10/10 game in my book.

Hope this helps!

My few cents:
I think Darkness could be bought for less (around €5) in previous sales (not limited to Steam, through), so I wouldn't pick that one - could use some confirmation first through, as it is quite fun FPS and beside that price would be my choice.

I tried Enslaved on K+M combo yesterday and didn't like it. And beside MK and Injustice I always play on K+M.

Had some fun with Alice, but it's still waiting for me to return to it to finish it. Too much jumping :)

I own Darkness 2 and (since this sale) Odyssey, too.
Darkness 2 is very good. I have not played Odyssey, but i played the Demo a few years ago and it was very good, to. (but i think only with a controller)

Thank you everyone for your opinion and sharing your experiences with the games.

I did some research and, as stated above, found out that The Darkness has been priced lower in the past (outside Steam). It looks like an amazing FPS with a original style, but maybe it's better to wait for the next sale.

Enslaved has a really nice design with vibrant colors and interesting gameplay. But since I do not have a controller it's better to skip this title till I do, and avoid possible camera- and control issues.

Alice has been on my wishlist for a long time and I do like third-person action games with more conventional platforming. Thus, I won't mind the jumping PsyKo. ;-) Since I haven't played any 'Alice-Game' before, I think I would give this game a chance and let it impress me with its bizarre world, beautiful environments and storytelling. I don't think the somewhat 'repetitive gameplay', as said in some review, would be a deal breaker.

My buddy played MY copy of The Darkness 2 (it's on my backlog list, ok?) and said it was fine but short.

I played Enslaved: Odyssey to the West a couple months ago and had a blast! … "MONKEY!"

Waiting for Alice: Madness Return to drop dirt cheap … cuz I'm a penny-pincher.

Indeed, I read about those problems. Thanks for the tip!
