No Valve, stop having my mobile log in. I don't want it logged it. Stop that crap.

So guys, any way to keep it in offline mode? Or will Valve happily ignore what people want there as well?

For my phone? No thanks, I use it for other stuff. I'm just tired of the mobile app logging in every time I have to use it for a trade or purchase.

AFAIK they changed it to always on after many users complained that always they want to use the app they have to manually log in. I have the mobile authenticator for approx. 2 years now and a while back you were able to set yourself offline and then the app started in offline mode where you had to manually type your password to go online again. It was a pain in the ass to type in long and very secure passwords on your phone, to be honest. I think I read somewhere that many people complained that they had to manually type in their password and about 5 or 6 months ago they removed the offline option. Now you automatically go offline when you close the app and automatically log in and go online if you start the app.

P.S.: Looking at the time of your post it is possible that our trading was the reason for this topic. If that is the case, I am sorry for your hassle :-/

It happens every time I trade, it isn't your fault. The problem is, when I leave the app, its still running, and counts me as online in it. I want to appear offline, like I can with the PC client.

Hmm, strange. That should not be the case. Have you tried to manually update the app via the app store? When I close the app on my phone I go offline in steam. WAI for me so that is a strange behaviour and I am puzzled.
Also, thanks for the trade, my friend :)

I'm up to date, downloaded less than two weeks ago. My phone just doesn't close some stuff, simply back out of them. Short of going into Memory and killing any running processes I don't want, some will stay running unless the phone is shut down. My image app is constantly running for example, and the Steam app stays running letting me know I've gotten messages when I don't want that on phone.

Sounds like it is a problem with your phone, then. Sorry to hear that :-/ Maybe there is a site called www.smartphonegifts.com? ^^

Once you are finished using the app and you leave your phone long enough for the screen to turn off it should show you as offline. You can then use the phone as normal without being shown online until you use the app again.

There is no good reason for there not to be an appear offline option though. And no reason you should have to log in (as mentioned by AmanoTC above) every time you want to use the app. Should just be the same as the PC.

I've noticed it online around an hour or two after I traded, so its not leaving. Its because of that they I want to appear offline by default.

I've been looking for a solution to this as well, but there doesn't seem to be one. :( It's a huge hassle, especially when friends message me because they think I'm available even though I just loaded up the app for a second to confirm a trade.

The problem is you still need to enter the code even if you are logging in from an authorized web browser or IP/PC!.

  1. use the steam app online/login once every 48hrs or probably 72hrs
  2. go offline in the chat of the app else you remain online on your phone for HOURS
  3. switch off wireless and shut down the steam app or not
  4. open the app or click a widget that can display the code ... in offline mode
  5. keep it this way until you require it for a trade confirmation

^ only half decent thing to me is that at least the generated login codes last for
48 hrs or longer (uncertain how long the codes are valid without using wifi)
