Release Date: 11 Apr, 2017 | Steam $19.99 | GOG 30% off if you own the original ($13.99), expired 4 April.

  • Launch Trailer

  • Website [Currently just a countdown timer, will update with details once revealed. (But I guess "Plan Escape" could mean anything, huh?)].

  • Enhanced Planescape: Chris Avellone, Lead Designer on Planescape Torment, has partnered with Beamdog to curate gameplay updates, bug fixes, and enhancements to best capture his original vision for the game.
  • Remastered Music: The full Planescape: Torment soundtrack has been remastered in-game to add more depth to Sigil and the multiverse.
  • 4K Interface: Sigil has never looked this good! The interface of Planescape: Torment has been rebuilt in high definition with tons of new convenience features.
  • A Planescape For Today: The Enhanced Edition includes modern features such as tab highlighting, area zooming, combat log, quickloot, and more!

By Beamdog (ex Bioware), the people who made the Enhanced Editions of Baldur's Gate 1 + 2 and Icewind Dale.

The original version already scales well up to 2560 x 1440 with mods (would crash when I tried to run it at 4K), but I'm still looking forward to this version as it will offer better UI scaling at the very least and presumably include other updates. I guess it's safe to say we'll get it first on GOG before the inevitable Steam release.(That came as a surprise!).

[Bonus: The original trailer that was included on the Fallout 1 CD and supposedly never meant for public release.]

Sorry, I love Silent Hill 2 too much to agree with you.

I love SH2, one of my most beloved games ever and surely best horror ever, but not even close to the level of Planescape ;p I'm a story-driven gamer - and don't get me wrong - SH2 has awesome story and climate, for a game, P:T story is on the level of the best fantasy novels.

SH 2 has the best enemy ever - Pyramidhead. Plus it has amazing symbolism and the best world in the history of video games. Silent Hill is and will ever be the best thing created in video game history. I'm a fanatic of this town so there's no point in trying to understand me. Silent Hill is life. LIFE.

best enemy ever - agreed. great symbolism? agreed. best world - argueable but great anyway. but these are all gameplay-design elements. Like I said - I'm most of all story-driven. P:T has the best, the richest, the most glorious story ever. period. And speaking of game world - P:T world > SH ;p

You may be right but for me SH will always be better simply because I like it more. Still, PT is right after it so still I value it very much.

By saying best game "EVER" doesn't it imply that you have played every other game ever existed? I believe that "my favorite game ever" applies better in such cases. Actually even if someone plays every game in the world, still it would be more suitable to say "my favorite game" either way :) On a side note I like the Silent Hill series too.

What prevented you from playing it before? Too archaic and clunky?

I tried to re-play it about 5 years ago and it was just tooooooo clumsy and missing so many features I've come to enjoy from modern games.

user interface felt old and complicated. the action wheel is a mess and a waste of time, and i had to play it in an ancient resolution because it didn't support anything over 1024 or 1280.

Great game, but i hate the combat system. You shouldnt need to micromanage more than one person in real time. Yes, theres a option to pause the game automatically but then you have to keep pressing space to unpause like a maniac, not really a good solution. I would rather that either be fully turn based or you only control one character.

The writing is excellent though, wish more games were like it. So I guess I will eventually get that.

It's a cult classic, what do you expect - 5$?
I dunno, I think it is quite reasonable considering what a hit it is. It's not just "some old game".

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yes, $5 sounds about right for the amount of work I assume it takes to touch up the UI of an old game. This could have been sold as a DLC for the original game since most of the people that are going to be interested already bought it one or several times already.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Could be. But it is also meant for future generations who haven't bought it... at all. I'd give, however, a discount for everyone who already owns it.

yeah, sure, and all developers who worked on enhanced edition should've been doing it for free, right? not to mention their costs like software licenses, office costs like rent, purchasing the rights to original license of the game etc - they should pay for all these themselves as well, just to earn the right to work for free for years to deliver you a free game! ;p

It's been so long since I played it last, so I'll have to ask you...what was the bug that you are talking about?:)

Comment has been collapsed.

there is one room with tile and a box (i think empty), in some of the black area next to it the mouse would change like it was walk-able and there might be a hidden room. kept trying to figure out how to get to the secret or find a hint online; the closest i found was a reference that mentioned they had something planned for the area but it was never implemented probably due to time or budget, it never said specifically what was planned for the area.

been a while but i am pretty sure http://torment.wikia.com/wiki/File:Mosaic_crypt.jpg is the relevant area

Thank you for letting me know.:)

I recall a bug in the original Baldur's Gate (I'm not sure if they got rid of it in the EE version) where there was a house in Baldur's Gate (the city itself) that would crash the game if you entered it. The reason for that happening is that they forgot to add anything to the house, and it was just an empty entity. It gets me every time I play it, as I can never recall the exact house that is bugged.
