Are you looking forward to the Enhanced Edition?
I remember that trailer oh-so well. It had me so hyped that I bought PST immediately upon its launch instead of waiting for reviews. D

I might be interested, except its being done by Beamdog whose track record is rather spotty from what I've seen (look at the negative reviews for Icewind dale EE and Baualders Gate 1/2 EE ).

Right on time for me :) I was just going to play the original version for the first time, but I guess now it would be more rational to wait for this release (and maybe the following patches).

Ah! I remember that trailer so well. I saw it when I first booted up Fallout, and decided that it was a game that I wanted to play. And I was right!:)
Thanks for this awesome news!:)

Maybe I'll finally get around to playing this game then. Unfortunately missed it during my childhood :3

30% bonus for the pre-order price on GOG, but only for those who own the original version there (according to the email I got). And if Beamdog fucks it up as Dragonspear, then GOG still has a 30-day no-questions-asked (well, mostly) money back guarantee. ^_^

Yep, there's no discount when I log out, so can confirm it's for owners of the original only, but does it say in the email if the discount will expire after the pre-order period?

Great memories. One of the best rpg's I ever played.
But I'm not gonna buy this one. I was hyped when Baldurs Gate got a remake, bought it asap and then I didnt really touch it.
I rather put my limited gaming time in new games tbh, currently thats Watch Dogs 2, Battlefield 1 and Mass Effect Andromeda.
If youre really into RPG's you cant really afford to NOT play this one.

How the hell does RockPaperShotgun still exist ? Is writing incoherently their gimmick or something like that ? I once read one of their articles about The Divisions and the first 3 paragraphs the autor kept rambling about how the guy he shares his office with (let's call him Sean) is on a trip to Vermont right now and how that's the perfect opportunity to play Division undisturbed and how Division is the best game ever without saying a single word about the game. My pet hamster writes better articles than that.

Most publications find it hard to maintain quality over time, never mind when it comes to gaming journalism. How many EDGE's are out there, after all? I wouldn't judge them on one article alone, or even a few. RPS has a lot to offer, IMO, especially next to conveyor belt BS like IGN, Gamespot, etc.

Fair point. I am kind of aware of that and for somebody who already knows the people working there it might even be a plus, like a personal touch but for me who has no idea who those people are it was a rather unpleasant read.
I'm afraid I don't really know what EDGE is. I get most my gaming news from SteamGifts + a little Gamestar every now and then because that's what I used to read when I still had a gaming magazine subscription.
Edit: Nevermind. I looked up what EDGE is / was.

Skycyle made a good argument, but I'll add that I've been a longtime reader of RPS since not long after they started almost a decade ago, and I still find the actual quality of the writing there, as a whole, exceptional in gaming press circles. Now, they don't always hit the mark and they've had their fair share of disagreeable or just sub-par content, but I'll take their articles any day of the week over what usually seems to pass as journalism nowadays. RPS has been a forerunner of the so-called "New Games Journalism", a term coined by British journalist Kieron Gillen who was a founder and regular contributor to the site but left a few years ago. It's basically a fancy term for an effort to consciously personalise games writing and not shy away from subjectivity and humour. As such, you'll find that a great deal of the content is firmly tongue in cheek. The humour is admittedly hit and miss at times, so it may not be all to your liking. I'll offer a retrospective of the weirdest Action Half-Life map ever made by a one-time writer that I think showcases the best the site has to offer.
Btw, EDGE is also a bit notorious for being hard to please and somewhat elitist, but I haven't been really following them for a while now. They also published a now infamous review of the original Doom that spawned the "If only you could talk to the monsters" meme.

So I was sort of right and it is their gimmick. Well, not writing incoherently that is, but the less formal and structured approach.
I think one of my main problems with them is that I'm not a native speaker and while I usually don't have problems with complicated english text the unstructured style and left out words in many sentences make their articles really hard to read for me and often have to read every paragraph several times to actually get what they are trying to say.
Edit: Regarding the article: Well, that was an interesting peak into a world that couldn't be further away from my own :D

the unstructured style and left out words in many sentences
Hmm, looks like you caught a few bad apples, I'm guessing those were unintentional or just not very well written.
I also used to read a bit of GameStar a long time ago, back when I lived in Europe. I liked them a bit better than PC Games, for example :D

Yeah, Gamestar is okay but over the last few years most of the writers have moved on to other stuff and were replaced by much younger people. Eversince then the Community has turned worse and have made a habit of searching for every small typo and complaining about every article in general. The comments under most of their articles are usually about as pleasant as the comment section of a YouTube video.
The other thing that offended myself personally more is: One of my favourite things they did was the "Server Down Show" a weekly 20 - 30 minutes show that focused on MMOs and Online Gaming in general and aired Tuesday evening (?) when the World of Warcraft servers were down for maintanance. While the 2 main guys hosting that show were quite funny and likeable they also had an intern called Maxi Gräff who looked really adorable and was quite likeable herself.
However at some point they decided to end the "Server Down Show" and created a new videoformat instead called "High 5".
I never really watched that show but every week I would see the Thumbnails on YouTube of Maxi doing groundbreaking gaming journalisms like "How do I meet a gamergirl ?", "Where do girls that like to game hang ?" "10 Things every woman does but would not admit" and the list goes on and on. And not only did I find it insulting to her that they reduced her to being a girl and being hot, I also found it quite insulting to myself that they would think I'm that socially inapt that I would have any use for articles like "How to meet a gamergirl ?". To quote Chasey Lain from the Bloodhound Gang song: I would rather fuck myself with a splintered piece of Balsa wood than watching a video that perpetuates offensive stereotypes like that.

Interesting. I only really remember Gamestar from their print days, so what you've described is all news to me.

Yeah, I vaguely remember, but never even once bothered with those offerings :D

Because the quality of the journalism is so bad that you will always find something, so the articles posted by various of their writers are memes of their own. Georg Wieselsberger for example is forum-famous for having constantly copied news from other sites, using a mix of typos, awful grammar, and Google Translate, plus clickbait headlines that are never accurate.

To be honest I never never really warmed up to the new people neither so I haven't been really paying attention anymore. I think there are only 2 people left from when I used to read the magazine back in the day and even then a good part of my reason to subscribe weren't the article but the games they had every month :D Over the last years I've only been using the website and the critique that their headlines are clickbaity is for the most part justified. I should problably have mentioned that as well and not only the community turning from bad to worse.

Bless Beamdog / Overhaul for their work on these versions, the only Infinity Engine game left is Icewind Dale II (+ Lionheart on the side that just got released on Steam recently).
Added to wishlist, would be great to play this back-to-back with Tides of Numenera!

awesome, hoping to see even more classic finding their way on Steam

Moved to #1 spot on my wishlist. I should have the original CD's somewhere, hope they qualify for the discount

I so loved Planescape: Torment, the box (still with all the original contents) is right here above me. I hope this will be really good, great to see they got Chris involved. Still a shame there's no way for original owners to get a copy though.

It is my understanding that the original version is included in the GOG release, and will actually be withdrawn from purchase as a separate version after this goes live.
It seems you are free to disable most if not all of the newer improvements anyway in this EE, so that you'll effectively have an experience that is very close to the original should you so wish.

I hope what they claim about turning (all) the features off is true, including getting rid of any extra content they might throw in, but I doubt it will work exactly the same way as the original or run as well. Removing the original versions of the games from GOG is distasteful.

I actually never got to play this past the first encounter with a certain floaty pointy lady, because my hardware at any given build or attempt to play simply hated it. Hardware acceleration worked fine if you discounted crippling visual glitches, and software looked fine but caused escalating mouse-lag. I might finally be able to devour this lovely story <3

Currently just a countdown timer, will update with details once revealed. (But I guess "Plan Escape" could mean anything, huh?)].By Beamdog (ex Bioware), the people who made the Enhanced Editions of Baldur's Gate 1 + 2 and Icewind Dale.
The original version already scales well up to 2560 x 1440 with mods (would crash when I tried to run it at 4K), but I'm still looking forward to this version as it will offer better UI scaling at the very least and presumably include other updates.
I guess it's safe to say we'll get it first on GOG before the inevitable Steam release.(That came as a surprise!).[Bonus: The original trailer that was included on the Fallout 1 CD and supposedly never meant for public release.]
Update: First hands-on review by RockPaperShotgun
