Howdy, so i decided to create this topic to advertise this free mod for half life, if you happen to own the game, can you consider taking some of your free time off and give it a shot?

A short description: Game consists in adventuring, leveling up, grouping with people, dungeon raids, explore, find loot, fight epic battles/bosses. Basically a multiplayer RPG, it's still available for singleplayer but it uses a central server to save characters when playing online(prevents hackers/cheaters to take over the world). Also it supports both 1st person and 3rd person views when fighting.

There are 3 ways to play it: single player, lan with friends, Fuzznet (central server used for online playing). Game right now focuses mostly on grouping, so single player is really difficult because you will need assistance sooner or later from other players.

This mod has been in a very long ride, but unfortunently it's been lacking activity on the playerbase, and this mod isn't advertised that much other than moddb, it's currently facing extinction like many other mods... So i'm putting my hopes that this topic will bring in some fresh blood to the mod, it's a RPG style of game, there are hundreds of items to use, multiple fighting skills, lots of maps that branch a wide level range for your characters.

There are still a few Developers working on patches for the mod, each patch brings new maps, new enemies, new items and sometimes new gameplay improvements or new gameplay methods. But the lack of activity makes peoples moral drop aswell, which is a bad thing. This is one of the reasons why i'm doing this, it's my favourite half life mod and it's facing dark times, so it's time to help it out a bit!

Main page, it's outdated!

Server List based on server IP, incase people see no servers on the server filter.

Video 3, some fps gameplay ignore the CHUR sound, it's not official!

My forums profile page, incase you got a question you can PM me there and i'll try to help. Or post in the forums, either way works.

How to install this mod:

1) Download Master Sword Continued 1.2 file;

2) Download MSC Betapack - APR2012b;

3) Install 1) under Programs\Steam\steamapps\username\half-life;

4) Install 2) under Programs\Steam\steamapps\username\half-life;

5) Restart steam;

6) Go to library, check for a game called "Master Sword Continued 1.2";

7) Start it, do a first time setup, if any issues are encountered, check the forums for help.

Tip: When you get to play, there is a bind for B key which turns bloom on/off, some people have perfomance issues when it's on, so turning it off might help with that.

PS: Would be nice if you guys could bring in some people from your friends list aswell, the more people playing the better i guess. Plus game is so much better when played with people you know.

tl;dr version

Download, install, play, post feedback (if any) and advertise (if you feel like helping).

THANKS FOR READING AND I HOPE YOU ENJOY IT AS MUCH AS I DID/DO!

The only problem I had when I installed it was I didn't find servers and playing alone it's weird since I don't know what to do.

Also, is version 1.2 the latest one? It's the one I have and not sure if I have to install an update. And yes I have the beta pack installed too.

To play online (using the central server, servers using this should have a [FN] tag in their name), you will need to have the game updated to its latest release, and to achieve that you must install Master Sword Continued 1.2, then install the betapack APR2012 inside the mods folder (the installer usually targets the right directory so it's hardly any issue installing this).

Yeah... steam has some issues regarding server listing for some games. There's a link on the main post with a list of server IP's, you can add them to favorites and play from there, hope this helps! :D

And the fact that you might be alone playing sometimes, its due to the lack of activity from players, so this is why im advertising the mod to bring it back to life. Plus there are timezones, and i know quite alot of people from around the world who play/played it.

If you have to bump it, it typically means people don't care.

It also supports singleplayer... but in order to progress further at some point, you will need other people to assist you.

Don't rage at me or something I watched some few scenes from the first video and it looks horrible for a mod, I rather play half life 1 than playing a mod with no story!!!!!!!! or even zombies :d
EDIT: I love to see my hands only :P

You can't really judge something by just looking into a videoclip, plus the gameplay one was the third video in the links... The other 2 are random.

Half life 1 is a great game, but it's mods like this that make it even greater.

EDIT: Forgot to say, the mod does have storyline put into it, it's just a bit too straight forward, plus the storyline is being built slowly, the team needs people to work on lore maps (aka original maps that are part of the background story, not custom maps which end up as random loot dungeons).

Ever since TF2 was free, Source SDK became free to so if it moved to Source Engine instead, it will give access to every steam user.

Eh, there is a source version on the works... but it's in a worse shape compared to the goldsource one.
Master Sword Continued is on the works since like 2002, it began as a mod called "Master Sword", then it got rebuilt and renamed "Master Sword: Continued", this iwas like 2006/2007, and since then it managed to stay alive with updates once in a while, sometimes we get to see more updates, it all depends on the people left working and their free time.

Master Sword: Source has been on the works since 2008 if i'm not mistaking, and there has been only 1 alpha release, which was limited to developers only... The way things are going for the source version seem to be even worse. And the fact i'm supporting MS:C and not MS:S is mostly because MS:C can be a finished product unlike ms:s which isn't even released yet. Plus the source version takes on after the events (storyline) of MS:C. So jumping into source will leave a loophole in the storyline. :/

And having the developers jump from one mod to another will stop the progress on either side, which is not really a good thing... Humans are usually subject to change their minds too often, and if they leave one thing for the future, they risk not touching that in the future.
