Doom 3 BFG is currently on sale for $4.99 at getgamesgo.

Since Doom 3 BFG is currently only sale for $14.99 for Quakecon, I thought I'd point this sale out for anyone who planned on buying it from Steam.

EDIT: Also $4.99 at gametap (Thanks movac)

Seems like it has some weird region restrictions.

From reddit:

"Dammit its € 7,50 in EU :("

"Not for me, i'm also EU. It's probably EU1 and EU2 difference."

Hmmm, it's probably that, then.

Oh well... That sucks for me.

$4.99 sounds like a great price.

Since it's just a key, wouldn't you be able to buy it with a proxy? Or is the key region locked and it would need a VPN/proxy to activate too?

Don't know about that, i usually don't use proxies, and i try not to.

Probably not, GGG regionalise their prices:

$4.99 = $4.99
£4.99 = $7.63 52% more
€7.49 = $9.95
99% more

You know that DOOM 3 BFG Edition was on sale for $4.99 on the first day of the Quakecon sale right?

Not worth it. Get Doom 3 + the expansion instead because BFG is terrible.

Although I haven't played BFG edition, I would still recommend it over the old Doom 3. BFG has a lot of changes under the hood to help modernize it. There's also Oculus Rift support.

BFG is an awful console port that looks like shit and isn't mod-friendly anymore. Do NOT buy this version; buy the original Doom 3.

If you never touched it, why on earth are you recommending it?

Yeah, funny how they go into how they bettered Doom 1 and 2 yet the fan made pacthes puts it in a higher resolution then they could, sad really.

Just to point out zxcymn's wrongness. BFG got source code access in december of 2012 because people like him were bitching. You can port any mod from the original, people just keep on the butthurt train and nothing has been posted for it yet.

Also, you can't add oculus rift support without modding. :P there is no official support for it yet, its through modding from a fan.

Don't buy Doom 3 BFG, guys. Buy Doom Classic Complete+ Doom 3 Complete. You get more games, and you don't get a shitty version of Doom 3, which is mediocre itself

I made a terrible mistake, don't do the same.

OMG is the sound bad in BFG edition, I am not sure I can even play it because of that, I mean it feels like the guns have no impact, the machine gun sounds like a weak needle gun, the shotgun sounds horrible, everything sounds bad.

I owned a copy on Xbox, a retail version on PC, the non-BFG version AND the BFG version on steam...The sounds are not different, the machine gun has always sounded like a weak needle gun, etc.

Does it matter? Mods

My BFG edition is not fixable and sounds like ass, really your better off with the original, hell the originals texture mods make it look 10 times better then BFG editon.

I have no complaints about the BFG Edition, I've played it for some time and the only differences I saw where the flashlight thingy and different lightning. I have both the original version and BFG. Doom 3 is far from mediocre, it's one of the best games I've ever played.

the sad thing about the bfg edition is that all of the old mods for the original version wont work anymore.
and there is no way to get them to work.

that pisses me off somehow...

Makes me not play the game....:-/

Also lol they did it for Rage tech, I mean what did they use from that engine? It for sure wasn't the enemy/gun effects/physics which should have been top priority when using that engine.

not true. the mods will work through porting. Source code was added LAST YEAR, its just because of people like you still on the butthurt train for outdated information that these port ideas havent been posted to the masses so you still have to do it yourself.

I bought the BFG Edition, having never played DOOM 3 prior, and am enjoying it so far. My only complaints are a weird glitch that causes my game to crash when a save is loaded--which is fixed by entering and quitting a multiplayer match first, for some reason--and the inability to remap the controls in DOOM and DOOM II. These issues aside, the package was a steal at $5.

Get GZdoom for the original games, lets you customize pretty much everything and do 1080p.

I actually own both DOOM and DOOM II on XBLA as well, I just find them being packaged with Doom 3 convenient.
