OMEGALUL

Maybe one day Twitch will have serious competitor for game streams - it ain't happening any time soon by the looks of it.

Also Ninja made out like a bandit, they're still going to have to pay out his contract most likely.

Imagine signing 2 people to millions of dollars and shutting down within a year.. LUL.

ninja and Shroud are in big brain mode, now they just head back to Twitch and still got all their MS money.

I only learned about them from MatPat's Game Theory videos.

At this time I was just thinking "I never heard of either Mixer or Ninja before". And never heard about them again since, until this post.

Well it's microsoft, they have so much money that they don't really care. They tried the market, tried to make profit short term, it didn't work so they'll just move on to other things. No big loss for them. Maybe it's useful as an example that you can't really make a platform like youtube or twitch over night, it takes some time.

Bad news for the smaller streamers, who'll struggle even more to achieve a fair deal with twitch. I don't feel sorry for Ninja & co at all though.

They got the full pay and are now free to stream wherever they want :D

True, they will get paid. But twitch won't be as welcoming to them as they used to be. No sweet favorable conditions for poor Ninja. ;(

Like it even matters at this point, right now he could stop streaming forever and he'd fine. His audience from mixer will transition back as they transitioned when he left, some of his old viewers from twitch will watch him again. At this point he'd be fine even if he'd stream on an obscure platform that no one heard of. I don't care for him at all but objectively he reached the level where he doesn't need to care for these things anymore, he'll just keep gaining money whatever he does. (unless he fucks up badly somehow)

I didn't say that he wouldn't do fine anyway, but that he wouldn't receive the same favorable terms and conditions.
Some people always want more, no matter how much they already have. And if Ninja wouldn't belong to those, he wouldn't have left twitch for mixer.

What favorable terms and conditions? Twitch didn't offer him anything special before he left. Twitch started offering contracts after Shroud and Ninja were gone.

twitch will probably hurry and throw offers at them, cuz all they have to say is that youtube offered to them, and twitch will freak out scared to lose them, and offer them millions . so its a win win for them

Neither do I, but let us remember that they're just like footballers: they wouldn't earn outrageous amounts of money if nobody watched them do whatever crap it is they do.

The tech industry is getting so consanguineous...

"Microsoft gives up its streaming branch, sells it to Facebook. Biggest competitor (and crushingly dominant actor) being Twitch, which Amazon bought years ago"
What a diverse market and what a decentralized Internet 🙄🙄

MS dying and the PC OS market being more diverse? I also like dreaming of utopias.
But for real, it'll take decades at best.

It's not like FOSS is doing exactly great. They are still trying to force decades old shit idea to work on desktops... Namely Unix... It wasn't good back then it's not good now either...

Yeah, I gave up on GNU-Linux OS's years ago when I spent hours trying to figure out why I couldn't send sound separately to the internal speaker and the headphone jack on a notebook the right way without messing around with the sound mixer every time I restarted the PC. That and gaming were the two things that finally brought me back to the dark side (windows) for good.
That said, I'm still holding on to w7 but I know that eventually I'll have to make the jump to w10 or go back to linux, and the pinguin is looking more tempting that it used to.
That's why I'd love a more diverse market, one with actual options and not just Windows, dozens of flavors of Linux, or obscure OS's with miniscule ecosystems. I don't count Mac OSX as an option, is not a real OS if I'm not allowed to build my own PC acording to my preferences and budget.

one with actual options and not just Windows, dozens of flavors of Linux

What is / are your functional issue(s) with Windows? Win 10 works great, and the only 2 major issues I have with it is it's close-source/spyware/etc and you can't block or cherry-pick updates.

I'm convinced Linux would do a lot better if it tried to behave like Windows, UX-wise. In this respect, ReactOS has the right idea IMO... Except for some reason it totally lacks developers, while in the same time, as you pointed out, thousands of devs create and maintain hundreds of Linux distributions that exhibit barely any perceivable differences.

Auto updates with little control on my part rub me the wrong way, that's my main issue with win 10. I hate it when an update breaks something and there's no option to go back so you just have to sit there for months hoping they fix it.
ReactOS is a nice concept, and it even works (to some extent), but who knows when it'll be ready for daily use. I have a feeling that at some point it might become the de facto option for running old windows programs.

I never understood how monetization works in Mixer. Some rubies and diamonds - looked like another in-game crap ppl get in cheap p2w games. For big streamer all is clear you get millions by contract, but for someone who just starts out looks like a trap.

As per usual, if it's so easy, do it yourself. The fact is that you need talent and luck for that stuff. He's a cringeworthy manchild. I mean, half his tweets are just embarrassment that you'd expect from a 12 year old. But I genuinely don't get people who are salty about people doing stuff they enjoy and getting successful at it. The best I can hope for is that you're just jealous and lashing out, rather than being just ignorant of the basic aspects of the world.

Or maybe you're genuinely thinking that kids don't deserve entertainment or something.

It's a weird one, yeah. From what I understood, they barely got a boost from Corona while Twitch was basically dying from the attention and traffic they got. I mean I personally saw like twice the traffic than I usually did.

Microsoft lost nothing really at the end of the day. For comparison, the investment they put in is the equivalent of getting a $1000 paycheck and investing less than a dollar. It's just extremely insignificant.

All exclusive streamers are free from their bounds, so no McDonalds for them. They're just getting more money now. Although not sure why 30 million dollars is not enough to just retire for you. :D
