Seriously Putt-Putt is old but classic.

For sure! Pretty much the Humongous Pack is gold. Well, apart from the non-numbered arcade-style games nobody cares about (but I did have a bit of fun with Water Worries back then).

+1 velocity37 nailed it with that pack, old but awesome games!

never played it myself, but what about some of the LEGO games?

Any Humongous game, really. I loved them all as a kid, particularly Putt-Putt and Pajama Sam.

And they usually included demos of their other games on the discs too :)

Yes! I remember that! It's how I first tried Pajama Sam, actually.

Anyway +1 for any of the HE games, particularly Freddi Fish.

I play them with my cousin ever since she was 7, so I know for a fact kids love those.

+1 They are great and low on violence. I still play those games (I'm 19), so you might enjoy them yourself as well. Plus they are not too expensive in sales (like € 5 for most).

Comment has been collapsed.

I don't know about low on violence. It's a game about smashing everything in site for money.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

True. But I meant no blood etc. The low amount of violence is done in a way, that it appears non violent (at least to me).

It probably depends on the six year old. I was a strong reader, so I really liked JRPGs when I was a kid. And Duke Nukem 1&2, because I'm old as hell. Cave Story is a really fun platformer. Teslagrad is fun, too. There's a bunch of great adventure games, my brother played Secret of Monkey Island when he was about that age.

Sonic & Sega All Star racing

Man, that one requires some skill. Maybe that's because I didn't play many racing games, and especially wacky racing games, but it was of much challenge for me. Can 6 yo fly those planes in those tight caves and whatnot?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

i'm not sure but it looks suitable for a 6 years old boy :)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You can enable a flight assist (shows a path to follow) and you also can win without mastering drift boosts in C class.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

If I remember right there are no plane-transformations in Sonic & Sega All Star Racing. You're talking about Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. They're different game.

The one Dragomania suggested is easy and very fun.

My six year old loved it until the tragic ending then cried awfully bad... I felt terrible after that...

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I wouldn't feel bad about it. I think it's good if a child encounters a good narrative game this early and understands that games are sometimes a work of art.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yea i guess so, but its just that he has an older brother and it hit close to home... altho he hasn't had anything bad happen to his older brother.

Permalink

But maybe it's even better. That'd make him think differently about his brother and their relationship.
