Personally the thing I liked the most about steamgifts was that it was combining everything in one place, without having to switch to multiple sites you could check everything altogether. I liked that before a while I was able to check my trades, giveaways, discussions and even sales in the blink of an eye. About the sales button, obviously there are many alternatives and the sales section wasn't the main purpose of users to use this site but for me it was nice that I could check any time all the deals and especially my wishlist without having to go to another site.
I cannot argue that "keeping our focus and resources on giveaways" isn't an important and valid argument though.

This!
Of course you can find everything multiple times on the internet but this was a very easy one stop place.
Now everything has to be hard for some reason. Adding a +rep after a trade? Hard work. Go back from trades to sg. Hard. Every wl game on sale in a nice order? Let's browse the internet and find it on 10 different places. Why, why, why?
But we do have ugly annoying little shit piles available now.
Very nice change.

I liked to check the sales button on SG but I do know that there are other sites for this but still it was convenient to have them on SG. :X

Speaking as one of the 2%, I'll miss it.
I always thought it kinda tied directly into the giveaways aspect of the site because ... well ... people have to buy the games they give away. I actually thought that's why it was there to begin with. :X
I guess Enhanced Steam does the job just fine, though, so I'll manage. XD

You might have a use of this ? : http://www.sgtools.info/deals

I still used it from time to time, the main issue I had with it was that I couldn't filter out the DLC and packs that I already own..
I will still miss it though because I haven't found any other site that allowed me to quickly find so easily the games with the best discounts. (I find isthereanydeal a bit clunky in that department)

1m users, but how many active? Say, in the last year.
This would be a number worth seeing in the stats page.
With an optional select the date: lastmonth, last quarter, last week, last year and last day

look at the top wishlisted games on sg, then search lv0 giveaways for them. you will have an idea of the average number of active users in the past months.
mafia 3 / 16k https://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/j6Jy6/mafia-iii
tomb raider / 14k https://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/uL1fB/rise-of-the-tomb-raider
dark souls 3 / 16k https://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/4DJwp/dark-souls-iii
fallout 4 / 18k https://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/q4I0F/fallout-4
i assume there are 20-30k active users right now.

good startegy, but i'm sure there are more users like who ignore those games, or already own them. but yes, 20-30k sounds about right
out of 1M. damn....

Assuming it stays there. There could be 200k or even more who quasi-regularly use the site. Even if we extrapolate from popular games, luckily not all Steam users have the mindless hoarder mentality and want games they realistically will never play for more than 15 minutes.

Thanks for the clarification on it boss! I hadn't noticed it gone until I saw a thread asking about it today. I probably could use a few more points in the "awareness" branch in my skill tree. :D

I'm not gonna cry after it, because I used it rather rarely, but I'll seriously miss the links to Steam/GMG/GG. Them not being there was always just a quick indication for me that a game is no longer available.
Also, as Tzaar said, buying games and thus keeping track of sales is a vital part of giving games away and I don't think that taking away tools from GA creators, just cause they can always find 3rd party alternatives is a good thing.

I think its the right decision! thanks for the update cg!

Hi SG, I've been debating about the removal of our sales section for quite some time. It had a place in my heart since it was related to the first Steam project I worked on, but our focus has been on giveaways for the past 5 years. During that time a number of alternatives dedicated to tracking Steam sales have started up, and I think they do a great job at filling that niche. Last month the sales section was used by only 2% of our users, and it consisted of 0.2% of our total traffic. It's clear our users are here for giveaways, and I agree with them, it's what we do best. I'd like to see our community continue to grow in the coming year (we're approaching a million users!), and I think keeping our focus and resources on giveaways is the best way to achieve that goal.
