Check the Steam Group page for details.

There was a major hardware crash and the site owner is waiting on replacement equipment and will have to restore everything from backups, etc, etc. It'll be a while from the sounds of it.

Well i don't want to necro, i thought there was another thread, but apparently this thread been made 1 year ago, and now it's even worse then before, and it seems the admin is online but not giving a damn at all anymore. Which is a shame as astats also had guides.
What are other good alternative sites like these ones?

So does TrueArchievements - or what's that site PSN uses when you click More Information on a PS4 trophy and then Search Guides?

That site is great too, for the games that PC shares with consoles.

Yeah and out of 40000 games on steam many aren't sharing it with a console.

At least for those shared games, their guides are pretty good. I last remember using one for Ken Follett's The Pillars of the Earth.

Oh yeah often better even then astats, probably the best and sometimes only hints/tips.

TrueAchievements is great. I also use psnprofiles & playstationtrophies, but more often than not I find that trueachievements is the most helpful. The people there really go out of their way to give you lots of different ways to go about getting a single achievement. Like they try to one-up each other (usually in a respectful way), where with the PS sites it seems like in most cases just one person will create a complete guide, people take it as gospel, and that's that.

Is this in any way related to https://truesteamachievements.com/ ?

Actually I remembered it wrong 😅 I thought Sony had a partnership with 1 particular Achievement site but actually when you click Options and Seach the internet on a PS Trophy it just googles that Achivement and TrueAchievements is usually the top result.

Is this in any way related to https://truesteamachievements.com/ ?

I'm not entirely sure.... They have different logos but use the same site layout and both have a list of the first to unlock an achievement on the right side so I would say yes.

Judge for yourself.

Ah, thanks.

Yeah, seems like they are related.
Both owned and operated by TrueGaming Network Ltd (also TrueTrophies)

I was confused first for a sec, because TrueAchievements (i.e. without the "Steam" part) is an XBox only site..

But if you are interested primarily in the guides and not the tracking part, it still makes sense..
I missed that initially..
Yeah, if one's looking for good guides this looks like a good option!

Yeah, I only use them for the guides.

To be honest I didn't even know competetive achievement hunting was a thing 😅 At first glance it sounds.... unhealthy but since I didn't even knew it existed I probably don't know enough about it to form an educated opinion.

The achievements crawler has been dead for weeks, new achievements you got will not show up, as happened many times now, but usually the admin would reset the crawler, this time not.

ah ok, it has happened to me before, but usually you can also open a game page on the site and manually "update" to fetch the unlocked achievements.

in any case, as was already mentioned in the thread above, there are other achievement tracking sites: steamhunters, completionist, exophase, metagamerscore, achievementstats

If the crawler is stuck, manually won't help, because it just adds more requests to the crawler, essentially making it worse.
You might had the coincidence that the crawler was just fixed when you done that.

so for tracking achievements, i think nothing is better than completionist.me (my profile for reference). i know, i haven't been very active lately. i love how it has basically everything i might want to know neatly on one screen. i like the general aesthetic more than the others sites, too.

for achievement guides, i start with a shift+tab and try my luck with steam which works a majority of the time. if that fails or i want some supplemental info i use google. sometimes steam only has video guides, and i prefer text/photos for most games. i've found that there isn't really one single source that has everything guide related - so, google. there are a few sites that pop up frequently though like truesteamachievements.com / trueachievements.com / truetrophies.com, neoseeker.com, playstationtrophies.org, xboxachievements.com, etc. sometimes i even find some little blog that has a guide i couldn't find anywhere else.

Thanks. Sometimes i even bother the dev (with point and click adventure games that don't got anything) :p

I think the beginning of the end was when games started selling achievements. Because at that point the idea of a 'competitive' achievement leaderboard became all but meaningless and the dev stopped caring really. And I believe the issue with the crawler getting stuck all the time is also to do with the sheer number of achievements on some profiles, and then it gets stuck and keeps resetting and recrawling the same profile in a loop.
I did used to enjoy the guides it offered though, as these were often the only place to find information on certain achievements, or tips on ones that were broken.
I wish a site like completionist would add a guide function, then I wouldn't need to visit any other sites.

I absolutely despise those kind of games with achievement spam and will never support such practices as making games only to boost artificial numbers on achievements. Of course, people are free to do what they please but I much more enjoy getting achievements for a game I actually played and enjoyed than just launch a game and get 5000 "achievements" for clicking my mouse. The guide part of astats is maybe the one reason I still visit the site from time to time since it doesn't update profiles and for me they ruined the point system when they did the revamp a few years back. Steamhunters and completionist.me are the ones I frequent nowadays.

Yeah those games really are the worst. But I guess the one upside was that I realized achievements in themselves were not what I enjoyed, but rather it was the challenge of beating a game to completion. And so I stopped playing games just to make a number go up, and played games I enjoyed instead, using the achievements only as a measure to know when I was done with the game and to highlight things the devs wanted me to discover. It brought a lot of the enjoyment back to playing for me. Prior to this I found myself playing games I didn't enjoy just because they had achievements that were 'valuable'.

launch a game and get 5000 "achievements"

man, i got this free trivia game and didn't realize it had achievement spam. the damn thing gives 5k achievements literally for just downloading it.. you don't even need to open it. i tried using sam to lock them but every time i did it, they instantly unlocked again. so i can't even get rid of them. kinda pissed me off. can't wrap my head around why people actually want these games and are willing to pay money for them.

I don't care about achievements much but exceptions apply. For example I'm playing through Mass Effect 3 right now and besides all of them looking very neat design wise to get some of them feels like a real achievement as it should be.
People going intentionally for games with thousands of achievements are simpletons or dumb kids preferring quantity over quality.

I think you can delete the game via support, then try to lock them for good. That should work.

i don't think sam lets you change achievements in games you don't own, or at least i couldn't figure it out. i tried it before with another achievement spam game i played years ago, but couldn't alter my achievements after removing the game from my library. i would love to know if it was possible though.

i think with both games combined i have something like 7k spam achievements i wanna delete.

I had a negligence with a couple Zup games in the past and I actually managed to remove those achievements with SAM. Though I remember that it didn't work with at least one game.

API cannot find the game if you delete it beforehand it seems. By the way, how does it work that you gain those achievements without opening the game? Even if there are "have the game" type of achievements, they still need you to run the game once.

how does it work that you gain those achievements without opening the game

i was wondering the same thing actually. iirc, they popped while i was in the steam library.

the second game i mentioned i stupidly removed without deleting the achievements beforehand, so technically i could lock them again though i would have to re-buy the game.

the 5k cheevo spam trivia game i mentioned is Trivia Vault: Mini Mixed Trivia 3. it was temporarily free a little while back. according to the top review:

The achievements appear to be unlocked in your library without even installing the game, but you actually have to install and launch the game for them to count.

so according to that i may have actually screwed myself by "opening" the game via sam when i tried to lock the achievements. and since it needs to be "opened" in order to lock them, it just reverses the process instantly. i remember i even tried locking them then closing sam as quickly as i could, but it wouldn't work. i'm just stuck with them.

You don't have to re-buy the game. Go to Steam Support >> Games, Software, etc. >> Search the game and select it >> It's not in my library >> Restore the previously removed package to my account. Then you should be able to remove the achievements via SAM and re-delete the game.

Those Trivia Vault games look so scammy. I think Steam Support might help you there. They can delete inventory items, maybe they can re-lock your achievements as well. Just tell them about this game's scammy behaviour that achievements unlock without installing the game, perhaps they'll help you. Though since they unlock automatically, you might also need to ask them to re-lock achievements and delete the game for you.

thank you so much for the advice. i didn't know you could restore removed games. i guess "permanent" doesn't actually mean "permanent". i went ahead and did that, but it turns out that ninja way is another one that unlocks them for opening the game, although it was only 2600/2638 for whatever reason. i guess they want you to really work for the other 38 achievements. it also crashed steam when it unlocked them all. i'll give steam support a shot. thanks again for the great tips. i almost never do whitelist giveaways, but have a blue heart anyway.

You're welcome! Yeah, it's not really permanent but I used it a lot since I don't want to see those games even in hidden. My guess is, they designed it that way to do not let people to buy cheap games again and again to farm cards, and on the bottom keep the sale stats intact. So probably they won't change this ever.

I don't know how they trigger achievements outside of the game but at least it should be work for Ninja Way since SAM doesn't run the program, just tricks the API. I have absolutely no idea for Trivia Vault games.

Just trying to be helpful but thanks for the blue heart anyway. <3
