Not sure what that means, except Humble Bundle will go back to keys (damn, I was enjoying that system that actually let me know wich keys were used and wich weren't).

Support for OAuth is already removed, you can't redeem games from those DLH promotions anymore either.

As far as humble bundle
"These instructions will only apply to purchases made after January 12, 2015. Any purchases made before said time will still require OAuth. You can find instructions on how to redeem a Steam key with OAuth here."Link This was found at the bottom of the new updated redemption page. Here

So, has anyone received word on how to redeem HB or IG links from previous bundles? I have an IG link I'm trying to redeem, but I get an error stating that there is an invalid client_id. I assume this is the result of OAuth going away... or is it something else?

EDIT: Never mind. IndieGala is now showing a key when I click the link.

I have the same problem. And it looks like OAuth problem to me. But i never developed anything with this API so it's hard to say. To me, it looks like Valve disabled OAuth only for some sites (i think error would look different if OAuth were removed).

Yeah, now I have no idea what is redeemed or gifted since they changed all previous bundles to keys and don't show a Redeemed message anymore...

At least on Humble, unless you reveal your key, you know it's unused.

Wow, that is really bad now :/

For crying out loud, they need to come up with a solution to show what was redeemed and what wasn't :/

I stopped keeping track of what I redeemed from those when they implemented this system, since it showed that "X was redeemed on Y steam account". Now it doesn't show that anymore, just a key >.<

Though I wonder, why couldn't they leave the old ones as they were and just add keys to their new bundles. Humble still lets you activate the old links automatically, just tried.

Also, that's only a problem with IG. Groupees has the Used checkbox and Humble's keys need to be revealed first.

IndieGala finally marked old keys redeemed with linked accounts / gifting as used. Now all that's left is to add an option for you, yourself to mark keys as used.

Oh great now how do I know which is the one I gave and which I didn't, having a 9 pack gift link is no good.

So, I tried to redeem a key on Humble from a game that I already had (Nuclear Dawn) and it still redeemed :/ I guessed it was like Gala and will show the key. I don't get why Gala changed for old humbles then :/

Personally, i don't see the issue. First thing i do when i buy a bundle is to check if anyone has my leftovers on wishlist and proceed to gift them the game(s). If they don't, i give the gift links to anyone who i think might enjoy them (or make a giveaway). As last resort, i'll just drop them in some group chat or something like that. So with that as of right now i'm at 200+ bought bundles and 0 unused keys/gift links.

Although i understand how this change might not go in favor for people who hoarded them for trading

I end up hoarding because I buy a lot of bundles and get a lot of duplicates or games I don't care for

I buy most bundles and keep the extra keys for trades and/or giveaways. I redeemed any new game on my account and generated links for the other ones. Now the problem I have is there's no difference anymore in my library between the games I had generated the links for and those I still had to do. And some of them were traded to people who haven't yet redeemed them. So now I could end up using a key that's been traded already.

It was also useful to find out games added after Greenlight because they were unredeemed.

I just tried one of my previous bundle links from Humble and it still worked exactly as before, but still have a few links that still leave me worried. Sigh

Humble is only reverting to keys for bundles bought starting today. What I'm wondering is what happens once Valve pulls the plug on OAuth? Will they show keys from the older bundles?

So the formerly created Indie Gala gift links still work if I send them to someone? They'll just get a key?

I thought I might've been in trouble here as when I first looked on my Gala profile there seemed to be no way of cross-referencing which formerly created gift link had been converted into which key. I often buy multiple bundles from Gala then create gift links for the spares. If I can still use the links I created (and have saved to notepad) then it's ok for now at least.

Gift links are broken apparently, you will need to grab the key.

Last I looked, Gala made the used keys / links show who used them again, so you can check that at least.

The links are still working for me. They simply give out the associated Steam key now instead of a redeem link.

Someone else couldn't use them, had to grab the key from the page instead. I was going off that.

maybe oauth granting access to reactivate problematic steam account like payment method disabled or not allowed activating any cdkey that valve want you to contact them manually to lifted. when activate any games using oauth, some limited access on problematic steam account like payment disabled or not allow activate any games will be lifted automatically. So guys keep some old HB links for yourself and dont redeem the games as backup if you get problem like above in future that allow you resolve without need contact support

what happens to older gift links or full bundles?

IndieGala has already reverted to showing keys on the bundle page, and previously generated link will show that same key.

Humble as made the change to new purchases going forward, stating that current bundle/gift links would continue to work as intended. They might have to switch them back to keys when Valve officially pulls the plug on the service.

That's a really good news, no more fuckery with links and "1 click to redeem it all". I want to buy a key and receive a fucking key, no more, no less.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The "1 click to redeem it all" only means that the underlying key contained every game in the package. Even if you get the physical key, it would still be an all or nothing thing. (Like it was with the early Humble bundles)

OAuth will be removed from Valve. If I understand it well, it also means no more steam ecosystem, no more "login with steam" on steamgifts and other sites, right ?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

If I understand it correctly, that's OpenID, which will continue to be available. Those sites only use it as a way of logging in and associating a site account with a Steam account. OAuth is where sites ask permission to modify the Steam account, such as by activating games.

You are perfectly right, I mixed up OpenID and OAuth, which are 2 different things. Thanks for clearing that !

Oh Valve. Whats next? Revoking already redeemed keys/gifts from other regions? Pay monthly fee for Onlinegaming? Kill older licences, so you can´t Play already payed games anymore? If someone asked me if anything like that could happen a year ago, I would call him stupid. But now....

What is steam doing? People keep saying they holding gifts for 30 days and not supporting OAuth anymore so they can handle scammers and malware but what they really doing is screwing up trading for everyone.. humble bundle will be nothing but another G2A now sitting there hoping my bought keys will work..

They reverted to their old key system but at least kept track of stuff that's been activated prior to the change. I wish they did like Groupees/DIG and added a checkbox so we can indicate what keys have been used already.

I like the keys better, unless I have to activate more than 5 of them at once.

All sites should include a "used" checkbox like groupees has.

At least now we no longer have to double login to steam anymore to activate keys.
