Take Bad Rats for example. This game portrays obscene graphic violence against cats including decapitation and the associated blood sprays. What kind of person would enjoy this?

I'd like to say yes, but how can that really be so, when it's nothing more than just a reference to our real world, which is quite sad.

People say games are to violent, but why don't they address the real world violence first, since I see that as the inspiration behind violence in any game.

Also, you get parents, who allow their children to play such games, who are not mature enough, they witness such actions on the game, and don't fully understand it, then go replicate it in the real world.

As a medium that is marketed and sold as a violent experience, I would say its not graphic and violent enough to portray the real world for which it draws inspiration from. Worst thing a mass marketed game lets the play do is mow down a group with a weapon. The real world in contrast has people that will rape and torture individuals for YEARS just for shits and giggles.

At the end of the day it all depends on the moral/mental fortitude of the person playing.

However, I don't necessarily think that means we can paint with a wide brush and say that gives free reign for a game to do anything it wants. I mean- it absolutely can, but an individual is entitled to decide what's "too much" for them.

I think that while there's a lack of understanding on the part of the people who are trying to ban violent games, that we are for the most part capable of differentiating reality from fiction and vice-versa, there's also a lack of compassion coming from our end. Think for a second about those "family watch dog" groups that decry the likes of GTA- they have every right to be appalled that you can hijack a car, mow-down a sidewalk full of people, shoot a cop in the face and torch his car, then go bang a hooker. And then we call that entertainment and tell them to lighten up.

In almost any case where you disagree with somebody, consider the fact that they genuinely, whole-heartedly believe in their side of the argument. They're not trying to be a dick, they're not pulling your leg, they're genuinely concerned for the moral fiber of society. Imagine being fucking shocked that people are slaughtering babies in a video game, and then everybody's just like "WHATEVER MAN, IT'S ART, YOU JUST DON'T GET IT." They must feel pretty helpless and disturbed by what they see people calling entertainment.

It doesn't make them right, as far as pushing their view of "too much" on you or me goes, but I'm just saying, there's a reason they're so outspoken.

Will someone please think of the virtual children!!??
No but seriously I like to sick and twisted things in games from time to time and it feels really good, but I would never do that in real life, I'd rather suffer than let someone else get hurt.
