Yeah, I feel like it's easiest to hone in on the kind of indie, mid-value titles they tend to pick. That said, my list doesn't overlap with yours.

Crypt of the NecroDancer is a game that looks pretty awesome, currently giving it away. Escapists looked quite good, plus my younger sister keeps going on about it so it wouldn't be a bad shout. Undertale is awesome, played it. The Long Dark also looks awesome, hopefully I'll win it, same goes for Invisible. As for Highlands, I've heard about it, but not too interested in it.
But yeah, it's all down to how many of the possibilities you own. :D

I picked up the Escapists a few days ago. It's.... different (in a good way).
Basically, you just start in prison and have no idea what to do (what can be crafted, how to even attempt an escape, etc) and you need to figure everything out. There's a lot of trial and error before you figure things out, which I guess is like really going to prison (but far more abstract). At least if you die in the game, you can reload.
Pro-tip: do not ask for advice or look up any walkthroughs. It'd spoil the fun.
