Hey guys, I have a HP Pavilion g6 laptop that I use only for school, as of a couple of days ago I cant use the mouse pad thing that is built into laptops (I have no clue what the proper terminology is, but its the thing that is built into a laptop that functions as a mouse). But none the less I can not control that thing at all, so it is really inconvenient to always have to use a mouse. I have tried restarting my computer and nothing happened. I have also tried browsing forums, and nobody has posted a problem like this. Have any of you experienced this before? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance and have a great day :).

Contact HP and see if they can replace the track pad on it.

UPDATE
I viewed the properties, and under device status it says
"This device cannot start. (Code 10)".
Then once I click on it
"This device cannot start. (Code 10) {Device Timeout} The specified I/O operation on %hs was not completed before the time-out period expired."

The device name is Trackpad or Touchpad

Solution:

  • Reinstall the driver, check your driver backup or redownload from HP Center Website. Mostly use Synaptics Touchpad, so u can search on Synaptics website too.

This device cannot start (Code 10) Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad

Is there a switch for it, or maybe a keyboard key for turning it on and off?

None that I am aware of, is there a usual default so I can try and see if that works?

There is one on the touch-pad itself that you double tap to freeze it, but that button isn't responsive at all. I cant turn it on or off. But I don't know about any keyboard shortcuts

I was freaking out over a similar issue for a good few days before I found the keyboard shortcut. It's usually one of the fn (function) options, on mine fn+f9. If that doesn't solve the issue I would say yeah, call HP ):

Edit: I'm amazed you say it's annoying to have to use a mouse as I prefer that :p

Thanks so much that worked. I usually like having a mouse, but like when I'm on a bed or couch it is kid of annoying using a mouse.

My HP Pavilion g6 never had this problem, you should try downloading the drivers for the specific model at HP support page.

Also, HP laptops are shit, just saying after spending 3 years with it. Hopefully buying a Lenovo on December.
