There are worse companies than EA in America. Those companies may not be in the gaming industry, but still...

Honestly I think Bank of America deserves it more. I may hate EA immensely, but most of EA's shitty practices don't cost people thousands of dollars. There are definitely plenty of people who can tell stories about how Bank of America has indeed cost them a lot of money. Like I mentioned in another post about this about how after a year of being in collections, the balance on my closed credit card somehow doubled and Bank of America would not give me any sort of a statement or proof on how this happened.

Paypal has a much worse track record. I think avoiding fees is rather easy with BofA if you read the damn terms and follow the guidelines. Paypal on the other hand acts like its a full fledged bank when clearly it is not and they have the power to just take your money with no legal ramifications. PP will lock accounts for random reasons in an effort to take the money, so accounts that go about their business for years and have 30 dollars or 30k dollars are at the same risk to be locked. The person with 30 dollars in their account probably wont fight PP for 6 months to get their money back though.
Thats still no excuse for BofA and their bullshit though.

Apple is right down there alongside EA. One of the worst companies in the world if you ask me.

And here comes LJN! Oh wait, they don't exist anymore...

Lets give them the benefit of the doubt.. Maybe it isn't for DRM. What we do know for a fact is it isn't to make us, the consumers, have a better experience being we made it clear several times we would prefer not to have an internet connection forced upon a mostly known single player franchise, or hell, single player genre. Maybe the CEO doesn't have many online friends and he hopes if he forces people to connect online, they will eventually add him on their Origin friends list. It's kinda sad and maybe we shouldn't be mad but feel really bad and play a game or two with him once the servers work.

My favorite thing about that is that EA is so far from being the worst company in america it's laughable that they got voted as such. They're terrible, don't get me wrong, but nowhere near the worst. (No, I'm not talking about activision either.)

EA will lose next year to Microsoft if the news of an Always-On console are true.
Then again, this kind of stuff was inevitable and nobody should be fucking surprised.

Won't happen and Sony is going to likely follow suit and start charging for most features of PSN and PSN+ will go away.
Comment has been collapsed.
Sony? The most obvious reason to do so would be to make more money.
Console companies have a history of arrogance. A bit of success goes a long way in how they act. Free online with PSN was Sony's edge when Microsoft was ahead with the 360. If Sony feels that they have "won" over Microsoft, then they may feel the need for that edge is gone. In the mean time, they see Microsoft making money through subscriptions.
Sony has already implemented its own subscription service with Playstation Plus. Sony has experimented with what it can put under a subscription umbrella, from "free" games as incentives to features like automatic updates. (Note also that pushing "free online" as a selling point gradually fell to the side as Sony pushed Plus more and more.) Sony gives away a lot of games and such, but that isn't just care for customers, it is also conditioning customers to accept and even want a subscription service. Sony has turned people who were unwilling to pay a subscription for Gold into people who praise the Plus subscription.
Will Sony change to requiring a subscription for all online? Not likely, but not impossible either. Will Sony put more features under a paid subscription? Quite likely. Will Sony reduce benefits? Maybe, maybe not. We'll have to wait and see, and Sony could always shift gears years into the PS4's life.

If all of this continues, then I must congratulate Sony in winning the console race.

EA's done things that pissed the gamers off. The most recent example would be the Simcity fiasco.
Comment has been collapsed.
That I would understand, but I guess that people who buy certain games like SimCity which have a very old history are basically fans, and why wouldn't fans stick with the creators in their times of need like we saw many times over in other cases.
I must not be the only one who thinks that most of the hate is damn similar to a herd mentality .

EA is a publisher, nor a creator anymore. Much like someone that owns a factory claims the credit for "making" a car when they didnt design it, market it, or piece it together. They did however decide to change it to suit their own needs, IE profit, by replacing the Brazilian Rosewood dash with particle board, carbon fiber body with aluminum foil, the plush calf leather with some kind of shag carpet, and the engine is made from lead.

Stick with the creators?
EA bought Maxis 16 years ago. SimCity 4 was released 10 years ago. The "creators" of SimCity are long gone. EA owns the rights, and they have a group of employees that they call Maxis making games. And the combination of EA and EA Maxis have a vision that is fairly counter to SimCity's history.

Actually, fan loyalty to the creators is one of the major reasons that so many people hate EA. No other publisher has done so much to ruin so many franchises and damage actual game developers. They've been doing that consistently for quite a while now.

Believe you me, working there has nothing to do with it. I sure may seem biased, but I'm not preaching how great EA is, cause it's not, all I say is that many other companies made mistakes or let people down and there wasn't such a big fuss about it.

The difference is, that EA somehow manages to piss people off with literally every new release.
Ruined franchises: (in no particular order)
Need for Speed
Command & Conquer
Sim City
Mass Effect
Medal of Honor
I used to love the franchises listed above, but recent games are just plain garbage.

Again, I'm not defending, I just want to have a normal unbiased discussion here, but I can't seem to see how they failed the NFS, ME, and MoH franchises ( I won't say anything about C&Q cause I didn't play it frankly and about SimCity there's no way around it)

Well, its one thing to make a mistake or a couple of mistakes. EA isnt making mistakes, they are making a blatant drive choke gamers to death on their bullshit. In the past, they helped prop up franchises now they tend to buy up a dev company or franchise and drive it into the ground. They are not learning. Fuck, even Ubisoft has learned, just a little, to backtrack on their mistakes. EA is going full steam ahead against the wishes of its Dev teams and their customers. Not only are they introducing worse things into the market, they are building on top of these ideas even more, and because they are such a huge publisher, smaller ones are tempted to follow them. This is the concern and why EA is hated.

Not to mention, during a support chat, they asked me my password. 10/10 would chat to again.

I agree with the statement. They made Battlefield 1942, The Sims...so on and so forth.
Comment has been collapsed.
No, Maxis made those games. EA just bought them to add these to their portfolio. EA used to be a respected company, but that was in the 80s and early 90s. If I saw the EA logo back then I knew I was getting a good game.

I laughed rather hard when reading Peter Moore's blogpost... He's just trying to shrug it off, blaming it on people who don't like LGBT characters in games and who dislike f2p games in general. What a load of bullcrap.
He fails to mention the blatant lying of the last couple of years, them not releasing any games on Steam (reason: "we don't agree with their updating policy", what a load of bull) , forcing people to use spyware/bloatware Origin (and then claiming it is successful, ha!), all these unfinished games, day-1 on-disk DLC, all EA's f2p games being pay to win, EA closing down much-loved studios (I'm still angry at them for what they did to Westwood) and other unethical and immoral business. In short, "we only care about your money".
I'm not sure why he also keeps insisting the always-on "feature" of Simcity is no DRM... People have proven a connection isn't necessary for the game to work... So it is, in fact, DRM. http://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/1a9t0e/simcity_modder_removes_always_online_forced/

This award is the only thing they deserve. I hope they win next year too.

Yup.
RIP C&C series, esp. Generals.
Hope there is a widespread outbreak of irreversible cockrot at EA Towers.

I have to deal with EA bs at another game site. I think that the current EA really sux and I only see it going down from here. As for Microsoft, they seriously irk me. However, they also seem to be a necessary evil. Thank goodness for Google :D
