So Do you think the changes in Steam are due to EPIC Store?
In one case, I got a notification that a stream was starting. I went to the stream. While streaming, having already notified everyone, the streamer sent out 5 more group notifications (each with their own steam popup into the center of my desktop--not the "this friend or that is playing whatever" but the "this event has started in this group | view event | close" type) in the next 10 minutes, popping up over my browser, and generally being an annoyance.
I didn't mind the first one, but I minded the 4th in 8 minutes.

I had the same problem - was looking how to turn off the notifications..
And then realized what Rahul is saying - you probably dont even need to be in those groups.
Checked out the ones that make most notifications - bunch of spam groups that got added thanks to some giveaways over time

They should update the main app instead. The chat already exists in the main app.
The updates were planned ahead of time before the Epic Store even opened. Their "new generation" started once Win XP and Win Vista were finally dumped (Jan 1st 2019). It's just that the updates have been disappointingly slow.

I'm going to reiterate this as well. Steam should update its PC client first, instead of doing all of these low priority things.

Instead of updating the main app they made a separate chat client... I have mixed feelings about it. It is good that thay didn't broke the old chat in main app, it 100 times better. But if they made separate app - they can remove chat from main app eventually, and that's bad
Not to mention that web chat is still an unusable mess on mobile - I would really prefer if they fixed it, instead of making some stupid app for chat.

Well I would really prefer that they implement new chat into main app, but since they said that they wouldn't do it... this is better than nothing, I guess, will take what I can get. Hopefully we won't wait for mobile and desktop app updates for much longer either.

As of today Steam officially released its Steam dedicated chat app for both Android and IOS. Steam also promises that it will upgrade its existing app.
Hope it is as Good as its competitors.
