The IRS doesn't dictate worldwide policy, America is only one country. And honestly, this is the exact kind of western resistance that was expected. Nowhere close to death.

I'm pretty sure I don't know anyone who says "North America" to mean "USA".
If someone said "North America" to me, I would assume they meant North America. If that was not their intention, then communication has failed.
Ignorance is nothing to be proud of, my friend.

North Corea best Corea! But anyways, a lot of people don't know what the differences among England, Britain, and the UK are...It's not unreasonable to see that people are geographically challenged for other countries.

You're right, though America is merely a shortened version of the United States of America, and is therefore an appropriate way to name the country. Some people complain that the word America actually refers to the continents and it is therefore wrong to call the USA "America," but this argument relies on the idea that the word America has only one definition. In actuality there are two: one referring to a citizen of the USA, and then other referring to the continents, much like the word "bear" refers to both a large furry mammal and to endure, as well as to give birth and to support mentally.

I don't think so. When people say "North America" they don't mean USA only. However when they say "America", I agree that they usually mean the USA. Just like when people say "Asian" that usually doesn't include Russian, Indian, etc.

I come from Poland, and when I hear someone say "America" I immediatly associate it with USA. "North America" is a different story, though

?? FPGAs are cheaper and faster and cost less to run, and work for every mine-able coin. Who would be buying up video cards for mining purposes? Did I trip over a vortex and wake up in 2011?

The US Government already declared that since Bitcoin is not legally money, they will not regulate it in any way. This includes the IRS touching it.
As Bitcoin is more legal than game ROM images and they're still around, it stands to reason that Bitcoin will continue to exist.

It's not a currency, but it's a property. ( because someone said so, so that make it so. Or not. )
So, property transaction taxes apply if the IRS applies to you. And self-employment tax on mining.

Thank you for the link. I have been trying to get understandable answers in one place as to how the taxes work. Sounds to me like taxes are mostly paid if you mine or buy/sell Bitcoin.

All thanks to the idiots at the IRS, we can no longer buy Humble Bundles or Indie Gala Bundles with Bitcoin. (Unconfirmed that this is the reason, but it is reasonable to assume that taxes caused the payment method to be removed.)
To me, this means bitcoin is going to die off.
(Note, if you work for the IRS, I am not targeting you. I am targeting the entire IRS as a whole because Bitcoin should not be taxed unless converted to cash. The way it stands, the IRS killed all microtransactions with bitcoin.)
Edit: The option was probably taken down because coinbase transactions constantly did not send properly (at least in my experience) and the tax really only affects the USA and mostly affects miners, people that buy and sell bitcoin, and some merchants.
