Hmm, something to keep your mind focused, I would vote for Crysis series, Mirror's Edge (Didn't play Sequal, can't really tell), Borderlands series, Dead Space series, Torchlight I & II.

If you're looking for some indie with quick runs, BattleBlock Theater, Binding of Isaac, Cook, Serve, Delicious!, Dungeon Souls, Hero Siege, Mercenary Kings, Terraria, Unholy Heights.

I went in with a bulk so you can simply compare by price and get the cheapest if you wish. But to order them in favorites:

Hero Siege, Dungeon Souls, Torchlight > Torchlight II, Binding of Isaac, Terraria > Mercenary Kings, BattleBlock Theater, Unholy Heights, Cook, Serve, Delicious!

Borderlands II, Crysis: Warhead, Crysis 2, Dead Space > Borderlands, Mirror's Edge, Crysis > Crysis 3, Dead Space 2, Dead Space 3

If you want to think things over, just roll with Tormentum - Dark Sorrow.

How did you find Dungeon Souls? I've been thinking of picking it up but just been waiting till I hear some more opinions on it.
Thanks again!

Through the publisher's Facebook page, I've won a copy. It's quite well so far, really! Imagine a dungeon, random spawns + spawner points, each stage you clear the spawner points and run to the next level before the big boss (Like the eater in Magicite when time runs out) comes chasing after you.

And then every... I think 3 levels it was, you go for a boss battle. Each dungeon boss done, increases the dungeon difficulties and dungeon mobs attack patterns respectively, it scales well! You also have two skills, one basic attack, one pot spot. Item upgrades and runes like Hero Siege, both droppable and purchasable from shopkeeper that sells you one of the three items. You also have stat points you can spend on each level.

Over all, it's quite fun! I seriously recommend it. Favorite game nowaround. :P

Don't know if somebody already mentioned but Call of Juarez: Gunslinger - it was fun to play :) I enjoyed it more than Max Payne 3 personally (though it's a very good game as well!) :)

And for Roguelikes I recommend two games that I cannot recommend enough.

  1. Rogue Legacy.
  2. Desktop Dungeons (superb mixture of roguelikes, puzzle and RPG)

Both can be played in short bursts, or long hours. Often happens that one aim at the first, and ends in the second.

I suggest Brawlhalla. Funny, cheap and addicting game, until a skilled Hattori ruin your day.

Like others, I'll suggest Terraria. I've been addicted to it the past week. :) Dungeon Defenders is also one that sucked up quite a lot of my time. 8 hours would go by and it'd only feel like 2... :D

I'd recommend Left 4 Dead 1 & 2 if you're looking to make new friends. Most of the friends I made on Steam were from these games and I've held onto some of these friendships for over 3 years now. Others admit they have met some friends for life from the L4D series too.

Good luck with your search!

My mouse is acting sticky at the moment so may need to get that sorted before attempting Terraria, but sounds like my cup of tea!
Wow that sounds really something! Haven't really paid attention to it before now but I'll add it to the wishlist!

I've always found Just Cause 2 to be very cathartic. Most of the normal suggestions I'd make are all console games. I like playing de blob 2, Katamari games, or Dynasty Warrior games when I need a solid distraction.

Also, if you haven't already played it on a console, I noticed that you had Batman: AC in your library. I've found the hand-to-hand combat in the Arkham series to extremely satisfying.

Ah yes, I was actually thinking of picking up Shadow of Mordor as I hear that has satisfying combat :)

Pixel Piracy is a good game in my opinion, 2d side-scroller about making a pirate ship and destroying pirates while building up a crew to become the most notorious pirate! I haven't put too much time into the game but I love the little people.(can get intensive on laptops in late game with huge ships--Beware!!)

I know that the Assassin's Creed series get a lot of bashing due to Ubi lately; but I'd suggest you pick up the Ezio trilogy (AC2-ACR); incredible games imo.

I zone out to the first Audiosurf a lot (I only played the demo for 2, but it wasn't as calming imo). Pick a Mono character, a favorite song... and just watch the curves and colors. It's probably the most relaxing game I know if you like not having to think much and getting lost in music.
