I'll second the Mass Effect series. When I play that game, I become one with Shepard.

Chores? Mooom, I'm busy saving the universe!

Am I the only one that found Mass Effect kind of tedious, repetitive, and eventually boring?

Hmm ... maybe I just didn't make it far enough into the story?

You're welcome!
Those games, almost all of them are "Choose your own path" games...
It makes you feel like YOU are the Main Char... And then you're making your own story and sweating cold because you have to do a hard choice...
10/10 would play again...

Are you interested in non-Steam versions? I might be able to get you The Witcher 1 (and possibly 2) at GOG.

Mirror's edge. It's so beautiful =]

Also Anno 2070. It's a city-builder set in the future where you have to combat environmental changes and such. The music is so beautiful though.

If you decide to go with the Bloodlines option, remember to install the fan-patch. It fixes a lot of problems and re-introduces some cut content. I love Bloodlines, I consider it to be one of the best games ever made, but it's broken out of the box (even with all the patches applied, without patches, it's literally broken, as in you can't finish it due to a bug in the main campaign).

  • Terraria's nice. When your life is in ruins, BUILD A GIANT CASTLE!
  • Assassin's Creed 2 (and sequels) - I'm goddamn Ezio climbing St. Peter's Basilica! Then jumping and killing some schmucks right under it!
  • The Sims 3 - create likenesses of people you hate, and trap them in a house fire! Drown them in pools! Or just give them a shitty life in general!

Seriously though, hopefully things get better soonish for you.

I love the game so much I bought it DRM free after playing it on Steam so I could make sure I always have it. Well worth the price, amazing storyline and a game that has made me tear up more than once.

Good luck with your future and just remember, as one chapter ends another opens. Take this as a new beginning step forward and lead with the best foot you have.

Sadly most of the games I know with great stories are depressing to some degree:
Life is Strange Episode 1 was bundled before
Cognition, an Erica Reed Thriller Bundled before
Spec Ops - The Line (you have it in library)
Deponia: The Complete Journey, this one is quite funny actually, it's a remastered version of the Deponia trilogy (Deponia, Chaos on Deponia and Goodbye Deponia). Not bundled, but each episodes were bundled before!
Borderlands 2 GOTY On sale + was bundled before!

So I would say Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning or the Cybertron games (War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron).
Or Dead or Alive 5 :)

Haha yeah I know what you mean! But as long as it's not specifically to do with a break up hopefully it should be a good experience. Perhaps time to fire up Spec Ops, but I will check out your other recommendations too! Got another suggestions for Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning, so perhaps will scout around for any deals on that.
Thank you for the advice and helpful information :D

I'll second Kingdoms of Amalur. Really fantastic game that deserved more attention than it got. It came out around the same time as Skyrim, so it got heavily overshadowed.

You can really get lost in the game if you like it. I started a match one night and had to go to bed early to wake up at 5 a.m. to go on a long drive for vacation purposes. Let's just say ... I never had to wake up.

you could play mindless games like painkiller or serious sam, they just distract you.
maybe you'd prefer a more immersive experience, deus ex: hr and wolfenstein: the new order, for example?
or a time-demanding game, like witcher 3, fallout new vegas, skyrim, or baldur's gate 2?

Hearthstone? - slow-paced strategy card game
Chivalry Medieval Warfare - Moar faces to crush with your HAMMER
Don't Starve - nice and calm survival
Speed Runners is funny one - was given away for free days ago
The Witcher and Gothic games are great RPGs
Whispered World for a good story?

When I feel stressed out and horrible, I just install something that is mindless and has a lot of explosions, where I don't have time to think about other things. Games like Serious Sam and DOOM work well for this. If you're instead looking for something more long-term to play, that still does not have a lot of downtime, a good RTS would do the job. Dawn of War, Rise of Nations, StarCraft, Command & Conquer (the later ones have less downtime, not played 4 yet, but I've not heard much good about it).

Usually, after a breakup you can try the following:

  • The Fappening
  • 2 Fap 2 Furious
  • The Incredible Adventures of Fap Helsing
  • Faps of Legends
  • Counter Fap : Global Offensive
  • Super Fap Brothers
  • and last but not least ... Age of Fap III Complete Collection

Srsly now ... get out with your friends, party hard, get yourself lost into the road ahead, and soon you'll meet your better half, get married, have kids and play the Dragon Age series, like i'm doing right now :)

Spec Ops The Line
Suikoden 1 and 2
Wild Arms
Metroid Fusion
DOOM 1 and 2, ideally with the brutal doom mod, and the heavy metal music mod, makes the experience even more brutal
Metal Gear Solid games
and of course, Chrono Trigger
Yes, they're not any of the newer games, but damn are they great
how the fuck could I forget about Dark Souls. You'll get so frustrated and angry you would even forget about your funeral

All just to hear a dude narrating all you do. WORTH IT!!!

Hmm ... what are some interesting games that I have played ... that aren't depressing ... and maybe somewhat cheery (though this last bit won't apply to all of the games).

-Thomas Was Alone
-The Book of Unwritten Tales
-Dishonored
-Dying Light
-Gunpoint
-The Last Tinker: City of Colors
-Mirror's Edge
-Project Temporality
-Remember Me
-Scribblenauts
-Sleeping Dogs
-Zeno Clash

(Length of games vary, the most engrossing games I've played have been rather short, unfortunately.)

EDIT: And if games don't work. You can always try cuddling with one of these:

Here's some I forgot as well:

-Terraria/Starbound/Crea/Signs of Life (All similar, but have their differences)
-The Forest
-The Long Dark
-Prison Architect
-NEO Scavenger
-Salt
-Killing Floor
-Cook, Serve, Delicious! (Trust me, you won't have time to think.)
-BioShock
-Serious Sam
-Max Payne
-Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy

And I think that that's about it for the games that I have personally played. Have a few others I suppose, but don't think they would be best for the situation.
