They are not a safe place, and we want nothing to do with them.

What games are related to fkn0wned keys? Any specific ones? I just want to stay away from certain giveaways then

Dead Island is the big one.

DI, Portal 2, AI War, etc etc etc etc

They sell various keys, this is why it would be hard for Steam Gifts to detect what keys were obtained from Fkn0wned short of abolishing giveaways for keys entirely.

I personally feel that they should be. I have become very wary of keys as of late. They could be exploited, stolen, bought from sites that could get you banned, region locked, etc. You just never know what you're getting yourself into when accepting a CD key from a stranger.

So only gift's safe ?

Nothing is safe, bro.

I could simply steal a credit card and use it to buy 100 copies of a game like Skyrim and create tons of giveaways. From the 100 winners, 4 or 6 of them would get worried as hell when they discovered how did I get those copies, because Steam doesn't accept receiving gifts from strangers, no matter the occasion, they will have all the right to ban your account and you will be wrong.

I'd be worried with anything I won, too bad I'm too poor to care.

I wonder how many people will check it now. I guess they should thank you for a free ad ;)

I see alot people started trading Dead Island and Portal 2 Keys, one guy offered me these keys to buy for 8-10$.

EDIT: Yep, looks like they sell stolen keys for 2-3$. Found this post in SPUF.

Why don't we just ban keys for good and stick to gifts?

That doesn't sound too bad of an idea. Keys have been too much of an issue anyway.

Exceptions should be allowed, like Prey. Apart from that, +1 to the 'lets ban keys' movement.

+1 to not banning prey and some other ones that are not available on steam but banning the rest... something should also be done about the steamtrade site that got opened recently... lots of DI keys there.

Agreed, but I'd compromise for just having it require people who are submitting keys to state where they got the key from. You know, cuz people who steal keys wouldn't lie about it. But hey, at least it'd be slightly better than it is now, and if it asks people if they have a key when they create a giveaway, people who want to enter would be aware that it's a key, and (most likely) where the key is from.

Because my Skyrim giveaway was a key from Bethesda. You don't want to exclude legitimate keys from legitimate sources. We've also done a RAGE giveaway as a key from Bethesda, Prey keys, etc.

if not banned, they should be in a separate category, maybe giving a small warning to people entering about the risks?

I dont think we had any issues with keys now. People are overdramatizing again.

No.. Because it's still possible to buy legal game from the store, but steam doesn't let you put in invertory..

There is no way to tell which keys are good and which are bad. Keys should be banned... gifts only pl0x.

Actually the other way around. DI keys were know to be fishy before the Steam forum hacks.

I can't recall which keys started to give key giveaways a bad rep. I wanna say it was keys for Origin only games but I could be wrong.

They said they had nothing to do with the Steamforums hack. And exploited keys have been going around there for like 3 - 4 months.

This group could've already been disseminating stolen keys prior to the hack >.<

Oh crap, I won Dead Island about a week or so ago and have been playing the poop out of it. I do think the owner of the giveaway I entered in was a respectable individual, but it'd be pretty bad if others got an exploited key.

Any kind of publicity affects your sales and is good for you. Especially if you advertise them sayin they sell cheap ass keys.

Yeah, but I still think the majority of Steam users don't like them.

Popularity is many things.

Request thread name change from:

Who would dare go on that website after knowing they hacked steam forums.

That would be one of the thickest things to do. I mean who knows? They probably steal from members on their website and give them out for free.
