Hi everyone. I'll build a new PC in a few days. I need your opinions on the build and i have some questions about motherboard and SSD using.

Here is my build:

  • Intel i5 4670K CPU with Intel HD 4600 graphics

  • ASROCK H87 PRO4 motherboard

  • Gskill Rpijaws 4GB DDR3 1600MHz CL9 1.5V Ram

  • Seagate Barracuda 1TB 64MB Cache 7200RPM Sata 6.0Gb/s Hard Disk

  • Zalman Z3 Plus Case

  • Corsair CP-9020051-EU VS Series VS650 650W PSU

This build will cost me 593$. That's the maximum amount i can pay right now.

I will add Nvidia GTX770 graphics card, another 4GB Ram and 120GB Samsung Evo SSD 6-7 months later.

I will play CS:GO, DotA 2 and Rust with intel hd 4600 gpu. My friends are playing CS:GO and DotA 2 with this cpu on high settings. I think i can play Rust with this build too. :)

Here are my questions.

  • Zalman Z3 Plus case have 2x USB 2.0 and 1x USB 3.0 on front-top. Can i use this usb docks with Asrock H87 Pro4 motherboard?

  • Can i add SSD to this build later easily? When i add SSD, i want to install windows in SSD and i will use other 1TB hard disk as storage.

I'll be grateful if you answer my questions. Also what do you think about this gaming build? :)

Sorry no giveaway :)

You should add a fuzzy dice hanging on top of the rig. For better performance.

I'll consider that. :D

So do you think the case and 650W psu is enough for that cpu and GTX770?

No, you should get at least 15 BILLION JIGGAWATS!!!1 or more if you consider further upgrades.

A little preference for H87M-G43 from MSI, but well, i never compared ATX format motherboards, o wanted a µATX.
What i would do if i were you :
Create a 100GB partiton on the Seagate. (I would prefer a blue caviard from WD)
Install OS and everything, and enjoy.
At reception on the SSD : ghost the OS partition. Hide OS partition on the HDD. Test it.
If everything's ok, delete OS part on HDD, resize the other part. Resize the aprt on SSD to use all space.
Yeah a bit weird all that resizes, but i don't know in advance what exactly space the SSD part will take.

Thanks for the advice. I checked MSI H87-G43 now. It's a little expensive than Asrock but it has less usb 3.0 connections. I have very small knowledge about motherboards so it's really hard to pick a good and cheap one for me. :)

Wasn't it Seagate that had the least good HDDs on the market?

Btw, you should get a 256 SSD instead, especially if you are going to partition it. (i.e. use one part for Windows, one part for programs/games that would be awesome to run with SSD - such as some Assassin's Creed games, where you can't gallop when using a HDD). You can easily add an SSD to this build at a later time, but don't forget the hassle that comes with it.

Btw, get 8GB of RAM instead of 4.

Tanks for the advices. Actually i was going to buy WD 1TB Caviar Black 64MB 7200RPM Sata 3.0 hard disk but there is 50$ price difference between Seagate and WD in my country. I live in Turkey and thanks to our economy system, USD dollar is too expensive here.
ı also can't get 8GB ram atm. If i want, i have to double the ram price. i'll add another 4GB ram with GTX770 later.

I think 4GB ram will be enough for CS:GO, DotA 2 and Rust. I need to get the cheapest gaming pc at the moment. :)

Ah, understandable. And yes, 4GB ram will be more than enough for those games. :)

I wish you luck with your future PC and I hope you'll have many joyful hours of gaming with it! :D

Thanks alot mate. Is there a huge performance difference between WD Caviar Blue and Caviar Black? If not i may afford WD 1TB Caviar BLue 7200RPM 64MB Sata 3.0 hard disk. :)

No idea, I mostly just pick up on things that my boyfriend mentions when it comes to hard drives, I think that's one of the things I know least about when it comes to computer parts, haha. This thread might help though. :)

Thanks alot. I will buy 120GB or 256GB SSD in 5-6 months. I'll install OS and games on SSD and i'll use 1TB hdd as storage. I'll do exactly like the guy in the link you gave :)

I guess i'll go with the blue one. Thanks alot for the info. :)

Sounds great. :)

The OS on an SSD is awesome. You won't regret it!

Are you going to overclock? If not you don't really need K version of that CPU. And if you are seriously in that the Z87-mobo might be better option.

I might overclock in the future. There is really small price difference between 4670 and 4670K here. So i picked 4670K in case of overclocking in the future. The real problem is the motherboard. I have very small knowledge about motherboards so i don't know which one will be enough for my needs and also cheap and good. :)

Seagate drives are very unreliable. Buy something else.

If you don't get 8 GB of RAM now, you'll have to buy 8 GB later and sell this memory stick, because you'll almost certainly have issues. It doesn't matter if you get the same model later, it'll be from a different batch, and motherboards are extremely picky these days.

H87 and overclocking don't play well together. Either go up to Z87 with the 4670K, or drop down to the non-K model for a H87 mobo.

Both of my motherboards (MS-7613 (Iona-GL8E) and an asus p8 b75-m) don't care, in the first i have 2 4gb sticks and 1 2gb stick (the 4 gig stick is corsair, the 2 gig sticks are of a different brand) and in my other, i have 1 8gb stick (corsair again) and 2 2gb sticks (same as the ones in the first), i haven't had any problems with the memory at all. That does NOT mean there won't be problems for some, but for the most part some bios's auto change the timing and all that to make them work together

Is it sure that i will face that batch error of ram. Because i can't get WD hard disk and 8GB ram at the same time. I have to choose 1 of them. :)

I don't think it will be likely, read my comment just above.

Thanks for the info. I might change Seagate Barracuda hard disk with WD Caviar Blue. They are nearly the same price here. If i want to go for Caviar Black one, i can't afford 8GB ram. I need to choose one of them.

Is there a huge performance difference between Caviar Blue and Caviar Black in gaming?

I used to play on a green drive, which was at 5400, and never had problems with any games. I can't recommend either of those, because I haven't used either before, so I am not sure about them.

There's no performance difference. You'll only have longer loading times with a slower drive.

As for the mismatched memory issue...as far as I know that hasn't been an issue since the DDR2 days.

Thanks for the info. If only difference between blue and black is the load time, than i have no problem with load times. I have 6 years old Acer laptop. It has Core 2 Duo 2.26GHz, 4GB DDR2 Ram, 512MB Geforce 9600M GT graphics card and 320GB 5400RPM hard disk. Thanks to my laptop i can read not only tips on Skyrim loading screen, i can read the whole books :D

For example if the load time doesn't take more than 10-15 seconds for Skyrim or DotA 2, it isn't a problem for me. Because i am waiting way too long while opening DotA 2 and loading the game. :)

So i can replace Seagate Barracuda with WD Caviar Blue. Thanks alot :)

Well personally I don't know why people are saying to stay away from Seagate. Neither one has a significant advantage over the other. Also, if you've never cleaned up your laptop or done a fresh install, those will really help speed it up. I don't know exactly what times you'll get with a HDD though sorry.

If the memory is going to be on different channels, then you won't have problems, but if you want to put them on the same channel, then you might. There's a reason why memory kits are sold - the sticks are from the same batch and are guaranteed to work together.

in 6-7 months its likely that the 870 will be out. Swap out that seagate hdd for a wd black 1 tb, they are faster and come with 5 yrs warranty.

I have nearly no knowledge about motherboards. People in my area suggested that motherboard and i wanted steamgifts user's opinions on it.

If not Asrock what do you recommend with the same price?

Asrock is fine

I went with AsRock on my last build, though it was because of need of support for my CPU and having dual-lan for reasonable price...

If you are going to add SSD later I suggest formating the HDD in two or more partitions, basicly a 100-200GB for Windows and related stuff.
Then just remove the HDD, install SSD and install Windows. Add HDD back and move all you need from windows partition and format that partition, or leave it to sit like I do because I'm lazy...
