most of them died, gameminer was a similar site but with a P2W mechanics
some sites gave you keys like indiegala is doing playblink, tremorgames and chrono.gg
now you can find sites that give you keys (for crappy games) if you wishlist, follow, play (F2P) games on steam

gameminer lost the host, i think the guy have up prior to that or was sent to gulag
playblink the guy died or run with the cash

resellers? Tremorgames was a scam; users earned cheap games by completing microtasks. Tremorgames issued a pseudocurrency; after they took the real cash from the tasks and could no longer meet their obligations to their fake currency, they gave a 4-day notice and bailed. I gifted the 1 or 2 keys I got out of that. Where was there any obligation that the workers could not sell off or trade away their earnings? Tremorgames was just a micro-Ponzi scheme. Desura was a much bigger Ponzi platform.

Tremorgames was not a scam. With this site, you could earn a lot of various games (from bundles or not), with low/middle/high value.
I got a lot of good games from there. I started to use this site in 2012, my Steam library got bigger and bigger with it (and I don't talk about cheap games). When there was a bundle, you could buy games in this site at a small price, their keys were always legit, never got a key revoked.
I don't care about normal people/users selling/trading their games they bought from Tremorgames... BUT in 2018 (or maybe it started in 2017, I don't remember well) what killed the site was the resellers/bots who bought ALL the games from the bundles in the second that the keys were available in the site and left only bad games to the normal users.
Anyway, it does not help erintesden as Tremorgames doesn't exit anymore, but yeah it was a good site for years.

You give good color to your experience. Nevertheless, Tremorgames created a pseudo currency to allow users to get paid for the dumb microtransaction tasks of watching videos and boosting search results on google. Most all activities on Tremorgames (and similar sites) were grey activities to game another system of paying for eyeballs to recognize a website. I am not one to create a bot to accomplish these grey tasks, but tremorgames apparently was not purchasing enough cheap keys and bundles to support their own pseudo currency. They were paid in real money to get all our eyeballs to pretend that we cared about 1 site or another. Admitting that it was all one grey market (semi-legitimate), maybe we could not expect much in return. Whenever anyone creates a pseudo currency which cannot be sustained, it fits the definition of a Ponzi scheme.
Nevertheless, most all of my currency expired worthless even though I submitted requests for the last of the inventory keys during the last day.

You are mad because you couldn't spend your Tremor coins in time (and I understand that) but there was a reason for not having enough keys for everyone.
When they started their site, their shop was pretty umpty. There were only 1-2-3 copie(s) of a game because it was often Steam gifts copies, or few steam keys from bundle they bought or from other legal sites.
After, they started to have a little more users, they added in their forum a section to let the users to make request for the games they wanted. (I don't remember if it was only for bundles -Humble Bundle and IndieGala- or also Steam store). Then they added a little more keys in the store (but not so much). After they added Humble Monthly request.
They created a script where you could trade in your Tremor coins for games from the Steam store (Of course, it was better to do this when there were sales on Steam). And they were pretty fast to buy you the games. You received the game in your Steam inventory.
Later, Humble Bundle started to be pissed by people buying several copies of their bundles or monthly bundles, so Tremor added the feature where users could sell to them their bundles for Tremor Coins. This is when we started to have much more copies of games.
The site was more famous then after a certain time, big resellers/bots came and ruined it.
But not only them, also some people abused the tasks system. I don't remember what they did but I just remember that Tremor lost a lot of money because of this. A lot of users tried to alert them but they reacted to slow and the site was dead.
So when they let us only few days to spend the Tremor coins in the shop, it was first come first served because the keys they got were from users with their trade system.
Sorry if I forgot some points, it was years ago. But that's the reason why a lot of people liked Tremorgames.
Voilà, I will not say more about this, it's off topic. Sorry about that erintesden!
All I can say to you erintesden, don't use GameTame, it's a crappy site. I tried it because people say to use it when Tremor was down but in this site, the keys are from grey market (I got a key revoked 2 days after I activated it, then I left the site). Also their prices are stupidly high.

I remember thanks to this post on twitter I ended up getting a steam gift card on december, good times

Have a look at Alienware Arena with the best loyalty program in the industry. Don't get me wrong the site is the same cheater infested dumpster fire as Steam Gifts. But if you're prepared to invest around five minutes of your valuable time daily you'll have a decent chance to get a nice game monthly among other benefits.

Well, ymmv but I usually get a game when I want one. Bots aren't the main issue compared to the account farmers one dude had around sixty accounts so chances are a little unbalanced. As a rule of thumb if there's a "AAAA" game in the vault don't even try.
Comment has been collapsed.
Heh yeah I'm not surprised by the multi accounters.
Takes a while to get enough ARP to even get a game and the "price" is getting steeper though so definitely not a once a month thing.
I was thinking of going for Banishers this month but with the other games in the vault, I think it'll go first or right after Ghostrunner II so I might keep my ARP
Comment has been collapsed.
I'm eyeing Banishers too let's hope we're lucky. To be fair they're doing non-vault related game giveaways from time to time too. And for NA and some lucky Europeans e.g. UK, France, Germany you can convert ARP in DRP as Dell store credit. I'd not complain about a substantial price reduction on a Dell monitor or some other peripherals for next to free.

I feel you as I had the same experience unfortunately so I activated plan b and got Islands Of Insight Deluxe Edition which I'm quite happy with.
As for your suspicions: besides bots you'll have to consider how many keys there are and how many users hammer the server at the moment the vault opens.
I consider the server not becoming catatonic for the first 10 minutes a huge improvement for AWA already.

I remember when a couple years ago Steelseries would give games on their website from time to time (before they moved to the Steelseries GG desktop app and then just stopped from what I know). People kept on complaining about how only bots get keys, but I managed to get 2 or 3 games from them... I mean yeah, their servers did crash badly, but still, was doable.

i still dont understand half of what is going on in there.
for example artifacts, i got 3 free ones that give you some kind of bonus but they cant be upgraded and some other ones i have i cant equip them and they dont have any bonus in their discription anyway. i have a bunch of fragments i havent used at all.
twitch quest barelly register time(yes i have the add on in twitch).
steam quests some time bug and dont read the games you have, i cant do the choose your own game this week nor the community event for "The Finals" game curently running.
it is a bit complicated or maybe im doing things wrong i dont know
Comment has been collapsed.
I don't think it's a you thing (at least entirely ;) ) as you're not the only one complaining by a far margin. AWA's feature creep combined with their spaghetti code is a recipe for disaster.
As far as the artifact thingy goes I'll refer you to Megumin's constantly updated thread https://na.alienwarearena.com/ucf/show/2167784/boards/awa-information/ForumPost/artifacts-info-new-flux-artifact-awasce-the-finals-50-000-hours-2-fragments-calendar-day-16 and fragments are used to upgrade certain artifacts to become really powerful in earning ARP.
If you have any issues write on their discord and if you don't get a satisfactory reply hammer them with complaints until they react. That's the only recourse you have.

Also had issues with "dont read the games you have". Start the game in question and run it for 30 min or more. Wait few hours or next day and then click "Check Games" again. You can use ASF for play. Eg. "!play 2073850" for "The Finals" game.

AlienWare Arena gives free keys every now and then
They used to. Now it's all "early demo" and "first look" beta keys. They pretty much switched to the Game Vault for all their GAs and that's basically a candy store for the 2.5 seconds it takes for the bots to reap it off entirely.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well.. just a teaser XD
Next upcoming GA will be Tier 3+ and a Full Game for $9.99, but probably not the one people wanted 😅
Adding another game $12.99.

they just put on "Helion" Steam key for Tier3/Level 3+ members

v rising was freely available if you had the level and points, from their giveaway site. same as mythforce, Kitaria Fables, Advent Rising, Pole, train valley 2, command heroes were all freebies available to level 2 to level 4+ members. thats just from the last 3-4 months
of course they also add "exclusive" demo keys, betas etc... but overall there are still games to get.
about the game vault, its a bit more tricky but also possible if you are online when it opens

Well, if you want some potential crap, then you have givee club. Otherwise there is Asus ROG Elite, but it's not exactly same, you may need a lot of points to claim game and some countries may have better possibilities of collecting points.

GIvee club is nice if you don't mind having shovelware on your account just to get cards.
I was wondering if other gaming companies did those things; never heard of ROG Elite, thanks!

Consider having a look at Free Games Finders if you want to be notified of any major freebie going on - Typically Steam, Epic, Fanatical, GOG, Humble Bundle... you don't have to join to take advantage of the notifications, you can simple subscribe to this thread to get Steam notifications, or join the Discord, follow on Facebook/Twitter/Mastodon (linked on group main page). Honestly we're just offering as many different ways to be notified as possible, so you can pick and choose.
Don't think this counts as self-promotion since I gain nothing from this? Just trying to be helpful honestly. :P

Only other community-driven site I know is Indiegala, but tbh it's giveaways section is inferior to steamgifts. There are also some sites that give you keys for doing some tasks - follow this, wishlist that, repost something... But there are usually only trash games.

It was like a month ago I heard on giveaway subreddit about SteamGifts and this other one, I cant remember the exact name, was key something, which gave you keys after doing some tasks.
And I know Indie Gala has a giveaway part that works pretty much the same way than SteamGifts. And of course, Epic Store and GOG give a lot of games for free as well.
I was wondering what other sites you know that do game giveaways or give keys for tasks?
