Note: Steam Trading Cards, Profile Backgrounds, Emoticons, and Gems purchased on the Steam Community Market will not be tradable or marketable for one week after purchase. We are making this change to combat fraud (which artificially increases the prices of these items), and to help maintain a safe and healthy item economy within Steam.

Yet doing something about the hundreds of accounts that cause the problems they claim this is against? Not happening. Thanks Valve for making it clear you care more about killing trading than dealing with account hijacks.

Edit - Even better, it applies to new crafted emotes and backgrounds. Already have it? Stuck with it for a week anyway.

Again, this really seems like a total non-issue.
Non-traders don't really have urgency that absolutely requires such items in under a week, and traders (and those who go to them) who might use such low-value items to sweeten a deal can easily stock up ahead of time. The only thing I see this causing is a bit of impatience really? :V

Unless I'm mistaken, I'm pretty sure other digital platforms don't have anything like the steam trading system -at all-, sooo... yeah.

Well, seeing how my friend was trying to trade something for keys, so he quickly tried to sell some stuff somewhat cheaper than usual on exchange-market (you know, 5 keys instead of 6) and when he finally get amount he needed, his trader told him "I got bored waiting, traded it with someone else".
So in the end, my friend lost around 1 or 2 keys due to those blocks...

Sounds like he lost out due to an impatient trader, not due to the blocks. :V

If there weren't one-week key locks, he would buy them and trade. But since he couldn't buy them, he had to trade his stuff to get tradeable keys.

That sounds like it's only a problem for impulse trading. While it's not optimal you also have to consider that no other service offers the ability to trade in this way, does it? My point is that rather than being angry at valve for trying to protect their service (no matter how hamfistedly it may seem), wouldn't it be better to simply work with what you're stuck with, and be thankful you still have the option to do this where nobody else is offering it? :V

It just seems like a lot of misplaced anger, to me. Much like when Humble puts up a few bundles that aren't jaw-droppingly great (or when they added pricing tiers), people flocked around to say how Humble is dead and that they're greedy bastards. It feels like a similar thing here.

Sure, it sucks that happened to your friend, but underlining it as steam's 'fault' is just a scapegoat in place of an impatient seller and a lack of preparation, really. It means that those who want to engage in trading may simply have to try plan ahead now instead of impulse buying/trading.

Does that go for trading cards you get while playing a game?

No, only ones that are bought in the marketplace. You should still be able to use them to create Badges immediately, but trading, and selling them is affected.

I really wish there were more alternatives to steam. Yes, we have GOG, Gamer's Gate, Desura & Origin, but they are not really alternatives to Steam at this point in time, more like complements. It's hard to vote with your wallet when one part has such a large portion of the market.

I have been flagged for using unverified payment sources for the past year at least 15 times now. Even though each and every one of them has gone through and I get unlocked to use funds in the market, and I still get it to this date. I hate adding money to my Steam Wallet since each time I get flagged and have to wait to spend it in the marketplace. It is bullshit. I fucking hate that nanny crap they have.

meh I sell the dropped cards immediately anyways and when I buy cards I buy them to craft a badge not to trade.

though if you manage to craft an expensive emoticon/background which you don't need then it could hurt a bit

Pretty fun reading this shit lol

People bitch because steam does nothing to try and stop scams and what not, steam tries people bitch.

Careful what you wish for or want as it can come back to bite you and in this case i am sure it has for a lot.It has not effected me at all because i do not solely get my games from this way nor did i ever intend.Common sense would tell me at some point they would crack down on the abuse and now so many are hurt.

When you demand someone to do something about an issue/issues then complain about how they go about it is just silly. You have all the right to agree or not with what they do.It still does make it seem like a a lot want to have there cake and eat it also.

In the end the only thing i do not really agree with is the change in not playing your games outside the country.I wish they would make an option to allow you to have access for a set time for travel or a vacation. The trade lock on the cards and emotes imo is a bit over board as i do not see those as huge scam problem.

Dropped ones can be sold. Items from crafting a badge are locked though, and soon that will include cards.

Oh, thanks. But all this lock won't stop it... And it seems Steam won't do anything against bot accounts (or human ones) responsible of "artificially increases the prices of these items".

Only if one or more cards were bought, because it inherits trading restrictions. If you have full set that doesn't have restriction, it will be tradeable.

What happens if you craft a sack of gems with untradable backgrounds/emoticons ? The result will be a tradable or a non-tradable sack of gems ?

Do they actually realize that "fighting fraud" by all those past months restrictions .. is doing harm on all regular Steam users ? Doesn't look like they do.
I can understand this 30 days not tradable games period by the fact they need those 30 days to do something to prevent possible credit card fraud. If the reason restricting trading cards is the same ( as they say ) .. then why the period is just a week? With games they need a month..with cards they need a week.
I am pretty sure now that they don't fight fraud by all those restrictions...they are just creating an official rules about skipping some refunding the victims requests. They are skipping work !. Steam support proved themselfs one of the slowest and laziest support in the web.

I'm really starting to hate Steam with all this restriction and security bullshit. Now EU can't even have ANY refunds. If Origin had trading/market I would switch to it...
